Points to note when using soda lime
Soda lime cannot escape from the disposable CO
it is used for its intended purpose.
WARNING
Risk of patient injury
Do not use with trichloroethylene or chloroform because
chemical reactions produce toxic products.
CAUTION
If soda lime has escaped – e.g., when the disposableCO
absorber is damaged:
Do not inhale or swallow powdered soda lime.
Wear protective gloves and goggles, or a face mask.
If soda lime enters the eyes, rinse immediately with large
amounts of water and consult a doctor immediately to
prevent eye injuries.
Powdered soda lime on the skin must be washed off
immediately as it can irritate the skin.

Intended use

The CLIC adapter is used to connect the disposable CO
absorbers CLIC Absorber 800+.
The disposable CO
absorber CLIC Absorber 800+ is designed to
2
absorb carbon dioxide from the breathing systems of Dräger
anesthesia workstations.
To be used with the volatile anesthetic agents halothane,
enflurane, isoflurane, sevoflurane, desflurane, and nitrous oxide
(N
O).
2
The disposable CO
absorber can be replaced during operation.
2
A valve in the CLIC adapter tightly seals the breathing system
when the disposable CO
absorber mounting swings open.
2
Ventilation can be continued without impairment.
Application
The disposable CO
absorber can be used with the following
2
Dräger anesthesia workstations:
Zeus, Zeus IE
Primus, Primus IE, Apollo, Pallas
Fabius CE, Fabius GS, Fabius GS premium, Fabius Tiro,
Fabius MRI, Fabius plus, Fabius plus XL
Julian
Cicero EM, color SW 7.20/4.0 or later
Cato (without USV) SW 7.20/2.04 or later
Narkomed 6000 SW 7.20 or later
Perseus A500
Do not use with Cicero A, B, C, monochrome, and Cato <
SW 7.20.
Preparation
CLIC adapters are available for the devices listed under
"Application". The appropriate CLIC adapter must be installed by
experts, e.g., DrägerService.
The disposable CO
absorber must be clicked into place
2
before switching on the anesthesia workstation. This ensures
that the disposable CO
absorber is included in the leakage
2
and compliance test (Fabius CE: leakage test only) of the
device.

 Insert the CLIC adapter into the breathing system from below

and turn it to the right as far as possible. The unlocking button
(A) must face forward and be visible to the user.
Operation
The soda lime has a defined moisture content in order to ensure
optimal CO
CAUTION
When the disposable CO
transport, during storage, or when it is in standby mode, the
sealing cap must be mounted to the disposable CO
2
When the soda lime dries out, its performance is reduced.
WARNING
Risk of patient injury
Do not flush disposable CO
longer than necessary during operation.
The soda lime will dehydrate. If the humidity falls below a
minimum set point, undesirable reactions can occur,
independent of the type of lime and the volatile anesthetic
agent being used: reduced CO
CO, absorption and/or decomposition of the volatile
anesthetic agent, increased heat generation in the CO
absorber and consequently increased breathing gas
temperature. These reactions can endanger the patient
through CO intoxication, inadequate anesthesia and
caustic burns in the airways.
WARNING
Risk of patient injury
Points to note when treating neonates and infants (only
applies to Cicero, Cato, Narkomed 6000 and Julian):
The compliance of the breathing system is reduced when
the disposable CO
ventilator delivers a higher tidal volume to the patient
during IPPV/SIMV, and the airway pressure increases
accordingly. The effect on the tidal volume and airway
pressure is negligible in adults with a lung compliance of
approx. 50 mL/mbar.
In neonates and infants with a lung compliance of approx.
5 mL/mbar and less, the tidal volume and airway pressure
can increase considerably and harm the patient if the
