Your Intelligent Printer Switch is a fast automatic data switch which enables a printer to be
conveniently shared between 2 (IPS2 models), 4 (IPS4), 5 (IPS5) or 6 (IPS6) computers. It is
fully compatible with all computers, printers and plotters that support standard Centronics
parallel interfaces. The high speed capability of the switch ensures that your print data is never
slowed down and with some systems you may also notice a speed improvement.

Package contents

Your Intelligent Printer Switch package consists of the switch and a power adaptor suitable for
your country rated at 200mA, 5V DC.
Installation
You will need an IBM style parallel printer cable (25 pin male/36 pin male) for each computer
and printer that you wish to connect to the Intelligent Printer Switch (see cabling specifications).
Where possible these should be limited to 7 metres in length.
Set the options to those required by your system using the four option switches accessible from
the underside of the IPS. The default settings shown below are suitable for most systems.

Switch off your computers and printer whilst you are connecting cables.

Connect your computers and printer to the Intelligent Printer Switch. (The printer cable
connects to the 25 pin socket on the side of the IPS by the power connector)

Switch on your computers and then your printer.
•
Connect the power adaptor to the Intelligent Printer Switch and to the mains supply.
The POWER indicator will come on and the STATUS indicator will flash for a few seconds
whilst the switch performs a self test. The Intelligent Printer Switch is now ready for use.
