Eurocopter EC 145 Sécurité Civile
L'EC 145 est un hélicoptère moyen bimoteur développé en collaboration par
Eurocopter et la firme japonaise Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
Le BK 117C-1 – qui avait déjà été construit en coopération par ces deux firmes –
a été la base de développement du nouveau modèle BK 117C-2, qui a été rebap-
tisé EC 145 lors de la reprise de la ligne de production.
L'intérêt montré par la Sécurité Civile et par la Gendarmerie française a été la
base d'une grosse commande qui, après un appel d'offres international, a lancé
en décembre 1997 la construction en série de l'EC 145.
Quatre appareils ont été construits pour les essais en vol, qui ont servi à réaliser
de nombreux tests. Alors que le premier appareil avait déjà effectué son premier
vol le 12 juin 1999à Donauwörth (Allemagne), le troisième prototype allemand –
l D-HMBM c/n 9003 – n'a effectué son premier vol que le 27 octobre 2000. Cet
appareil a servi principalement pour les essais du pilotage automatique.
Le premier appareil a été remis officiellement à la Sécurité Civile à Nîmes en mai
2001. Ill a servi à l'écolage des pilotes, et n'avait pas encore son équipement com-
plet. L'EC 145 est apparu pour la première fois en public un mois après, lors du
Salon Aéronautique International du Bourget.
Finalement, avec une longue attente, le premier EC 145 complète a été remis à
la Sécurité Civile le 24 avril 2002, à Nîmes.
Les systèmes de pilotage et de navigation sont basés sur les composants et sur
l'expérience en provenance de l'EC 135, ainsi que le nouveau type de rotor prin-
cipal, qui, avec un nouvel aérodynamisme des pales, améliore la sustentation de
l'appareil, tout en étant nettement plus silencieux. Un autre avantage de ces
pales d'un nouveau type réside dans la réduction des vibrations avec une aug-
mentation de 25 % du rayon d'action. L'EC 145 est homologué pour le pilotage
sans visibilité, et peut voler de nit avec un ou deux pilotes. Son grand avantage
pour les opérations de sauvetage est son grand rayon d'action, nettement
supérieur à celui des autres appareils de sa catégorie, ce qui rend l'EC 145 parti-
culièrement pratique pour le transfert de patients vers des hôpitaux spécialisé.
La boîte de construction Revell comporte des décalcomanies pour trois appareils
de la Sécurité Civile, qui sont décorés de manière très visible. En plus de la pro-
duction en Allemagne, l'EC 145 est également construit au Japon par la Kawasaki
Heavy Industries pour les marchés japonais et asiatiques sous la désignation BK
117C-2.

Ultramodern multi-purpose helicopter!
The EC145 is a medium-heavy twin-engine helicopter developed in co-operation
by Eurocopter and the Japanese company Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
The new helicopter BK 117C-2 – this designation was changed to EC145 after the
take-over of the production line – was based on another co-operate production
of the two firms, the BK 117C-1.
It was due to the placement of a large order by the French Sécurité Civile (civil
defence and SAR sorties) and French police force after an international compe-
tition in December 1997 that the
production of the EC 145 could take off.
For evaluation purposes, 4 aircraft were built which had to complete different
tasks. The first of these helicopters flew for the first time at Donauwoerth
(Germany) on 12 June 1999, however, the third German prototype, the D-HMBM
c/n 9003, did not take off until 27 October 2000. This particular helicopter was
mainly used for autopilot testing.
In May 2001, the first helicopter for the Sécurité Civile was handed over in Nimes
(France). It was used for pilot training and not yet completely fitted out. One
month later, the EC 145 was officially introduced to the public on the Le Bourget
International Aviation Salon.
After a long delay, the Sécurité Civil in Nimes received their first complete EC 145
on 24 April 2002.
The EC 145 differs from the BK 117 in that it has a new fuselage with a more spa-
cious cabin. Based on experiences made with the EC 135 and some of its com-
ponents are the electronics in part, the heating system and the avionics for the
aircraft's control and navigation systems, as well as the new main rotor whose
optimized rotor blade profiles give more uplift while being much less noisy.
Another advantage of the EC 145's new rotor-blades is the greatly reduced
vibrations and an increase of the helicopter's range by 25 per cent. The EC 145
is licensed for instrument flight and can also be flown by either one or two pilots
on night missions. This type's particular advantage in the rescue role is the much
increased range as compared with other helicopters of the same category, mak-
ing the EC 145 the number one choice when it comes to taking patients to
remote specialized hospitals.
This Revell kit contains decals for three different, flashy-coloured helicopters of
the Sécurité Civile. The EC 145 is produced in Germany, and under the designa-
tion BK 117C-2 in Japan by Kawasaki Heavy Industries for the Japanese and Asian
markets.
