Am 06. Juni 1944 begannen die Alliierten mit der
Landung in der Normandie. Dieser Stichtag wird all-
gemein als D-Day bezeichnet. 2014 jährt sich dieses
kriegsentscheidende Ereignis nunmehr zum 70ten mal.
Gut 8.000 Exemplare des LCM 3 (50ft landing craft) wurden
ab 1942 im zweiten Weltkrieg von der amerikanischen
und der britischen Marine zum Transport von leichten
Panzerwagen und Materialien von den Schiffen zu den
Stränden eingesetzt. Diese Landungsboote konnten bis
zu 30 Tonnen Fracht transportieren und kamen unter
anderem bei der Landung der alliierten Streitkräfte in
der Normandie (D-Day) zum Einsatz. Der gut 640.000
mal gefertigte Geländewagen gilt als das am meisten
für den Kriegeinsatz gebaute Fahrzeug. Das robuste,
leichte und allradangetriebene Fahrzeug kam an allen
Kriegsschauplätzen der alliierten Streitkräfte zum Ein-
satz. Der Wagen wurde oft zur Versorgungs- und Trans-
portzwecken von Landungsbooten an die von der Truppe
eingenommenen Küstenabschnitte abgesetzt.

On 6 June, 1944, the Allies landed in Normandy. This
famous day is commonly known as D-Day. In 2014, the
70 th
outcome of the war, will be celebrated.
From 1942 in the Second World War, a good 8,000 of the
LCM 3 (50ft landing craft) were used by the American
and British navies to transport light armoured cars and
materials from ship to shore. These landing craft could
carry up to 30 tonnes of cargo and were used for landing
the Allied forces in Normandy (D-Day). With a total build
of at least 640,000, the Off-Road Vehicle is the vehicle
most used in warfare. This robust, light and all-wheel-
drive vehicle was used by the Allied forces in all theatres
of war. The vehicle was often brought ashore from
landing craft to the coastal areas taken by the troops for
supply and transport purposes.
