Safety instructions
• To avoid damages and danger due to improper use, observe these instructions and keep them in a safe
place. If this product changes ownership, be sure to provide these instructions to the new owner.
• The LED system may only be operated with the power supply provided (a) or the solar panel module with
batteries (b).
• Never remove the power supply from the power outlet by pulling on the cable and never immerse it in
water.
• Check the power supply/solar panel module with batteries and the cable prior to each use to ensure that
they are free of damage. Do not use if damaged!
• Keep children away from electrical devices.
• Repairs may only be performed by qualified professionals.
• This product may not be rebuilt or modified in any way.
Assembly instructions
The LED system is delivered pre-installed in the planter. The power supply (a) or the solar panel module
with batteries (b) are optionally included.
To complete the system, the cable plug must be guided through the bore on the bottom of the planter (1)
and connected to the power supply or solar panel module with batteries.
When using the solar panel module with batteries (b), the cable must be guided through the connecting
tube (short or long). Insert the ground stake on the connecting tube, threading the cable through the re-
cess. Do not pinch the cable. Hold onto the connecting tube of the solar panel module and press the stake
into the ground. Finally, position the solar panel module facing the sun (south).
Completely insert the plug in the socket, then twist the connection nut tight (2a, 2b).
Using the power supply (3a)
Insert the power supply into a nearby power outlet.
Using the solar panel module with batteries (3b)
There is a two-position mechanical switch on the back of the solar panel module.
When it is switched to AUTO the integrated LED lights light up when it is dark, and stay off during the day.
When it is switched to OFF the integrated LED lights stay off. The batteries are still charged via the solar
panel depending on the amount of light. It is recommended to keep the switch in this position to charge the
batteries if you notice a drop in performance or if you are away for longer periods (vacation).
Important: The batteries must be fully charged after use. This occurs only if there is sufficient, sustained
sunlight.
Interesting facts about the solar panel module with batteries (b)
The solar panel module has electronics to ensure optimal charging/discharging of the integrated batteries.
A micro controller in the electronics automatically turns the connected LED lights on and off.
As soon as it becomes dark and a specific threshold is reached, the lights turn on with a time delay. The
delay prevents the integrated LED lights from accidentally turning on or off if the sensors are darkened for a
short period, e.g. if a shadow is cast on the module.
4
The integrated LED lights turn off when it is light outside or if the batteries are empty. The electronics pre-
vent the batteries from becoming completely drained to ensure long life.
Choose a sunny location for your solar panel module. Avoid shady areas under trees or shrubs, or the
north side of buildings. For indoor use, place near a window that lets in plenty of sunlight.
Care and maintenance
The solar panel on the top of the module must remain clean. Use conventional household cleaners; do not
use strong cleaning agents or pads that could scratch the module. Depending on the number of integrated
LED lights and the amount of sunlight, you will need to replace the batteries, if you notice a considerable
drop in performance.
Spare parts
If the LED system ever fails, a replacement LED system can be obtained from a specialist dealer or directly
from LECHUZA. Installation is simple.
Technical data
Power supply (optional) type AEOD-41xxx: Input: 230 V ~ 50 Hz; Output: 4.5 V, 200 mA, 0.9 W DC
Solar panel module (optional) item no. 15142; output 4.5 V DC, 250 mA
Replacing batteries (4)
The continuous charging and discharging reduces the capacity of batteries over time, meaning that the
integrated LED lights will not stay lit for the same number of hours they originally did. This is when you
should change the batteries.
Weak batteries will not harm the solar panel or the integrated LED lights.
Remove the 8 outer screws on the back of the solar module using a crosshead screwdriver. Carefully lift
the back; both pieces are connected with cables.
Replace the batteries with batteries of the same type and quality. Caution, check for correct polarity!
Do not use non-rechargeable batteries. Only use 3 NiMH AA rechargeable batteries with a capacity of
1200 mAh.
Put the two pieces back together, ensuring that the seal is tight. Finally, put the screws back in and
tighten them.
Removing from service
If the cable, the power supply or the solar panel module become damaged, dispose of the product in
an environmentally friendly manner.
Disposal of batteries
Rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries may not be disposed of with household garbage.
