PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION
1.
GENERAL
This carton contains a fan and a transformer/controller
(Solo SELV 12H versions also have a SELV 12V
Ambient Response Humidity Controller). Unpack
these items taking care to note the product model
reference from the outside of the carton e.g. Solo
SELV 12T. The installation details apply to all fans
and controllers but the wiring and functions vary.
2.
SAFETY
ONLY CONNECT TOGETHER THE PRODUCTS
FROM THE SOLO SELV 12 RANGE SINCE THE
FANS ARE SPECIALLY DESIGNED TO WORK ON
12V AC AND ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OTHER
VENT-AXIA CONTROLLERS. DO NOT CONNECT
MORE THAN ONE FAN TO THE CONTROLLER.
WARNING: Ensure that the mains supply is
isolated before making electrical connections.
All electrical connections should be made by a
properly qualified electrician. The siting and
installation MUST comply with the current I.E.E.
Regulations, BS7671 (U.K.) or the appropriate
standards in your country.
All regulations and requirements MUST be strictly
followed to prevent hazard to life and property
both during and after installation, and during any
subsequent servicing and maintenance.
3.
SITING THE TRANSFORMER/CONTROLLER
3.1 The controller must not be installed in a
shower cubicle or enclosure. It must be sited
away from direct sources of water spray and out
of reach of a person using a fixed bath or shower.
3.2 Site away from direct sources of heat. Ambient
temperature range: 0 to 40
3.3 The controller needs free air circulation and
must not be covered with any insulating material
such as might be in a ceiling or roof void. The
controller should be mounted vertically as
indicated by an arrow on the controller.
3.4 Solo SELV 12H models.
In addition to the above please refer to the SELV 12V
Ambient Response Humidity Controller fitting and
wiring instructions with regard to the recommended
siting of the Humidity Controller.
3.5 Decide where to site the controller and fan, and
work out the cable runs. See section 5.4.
3.6 SITING THE FAN
The electrical supply to this fan is 12V AC SELV from
the transformer/controller. This means the fan may be
installed within reach of a person using a fixed bath or
shower, i.e. in a nearby wall or window. However, the
fan must not be placed where it could be submerged
in water or regularly exposed to direct water spray,
e.g. from a shower head whether permanently fixed or
movable.
3.7 Site away from direct sources of heat. Ambient

temperature range: 0 to 40
containing excessive levels of grease.
3.8 If the fan is installed in a room containing a fuel
burning appliance the installer must ensure that air
replacement is adequate for both the fan and the fuel
burning appliance.
3.9 Ducted Applications.
These fans can be used with either rigid ducting or
Vent-Axia System 25 flat ducting. Where an excessive
amount of moisture is present in the air, a condensation
trap will need to be installed in the exhaust duct.
Horizontal ducts should slope away from the fan unit.
Ducts passing through an unheated roof void should
be insulated.
The performance of any proposed installation of
System 25 ducting and components with a Solo SELV
12 range fan can be calculated from the performance
table and curve shown in the leaflet included with the
System 25 Plenum (Stock Ref. No. 46 22 00).
4.
FITTING THE TRANSFORMER/CONTROLLER
NOTE: The controller is supplied with a surface
mounting box and this should not be recessed.
4.1 Break-out the desired cable entry opening(s) in
the mounting box.
4.2 The mounting box should be fixed to the mounting
surface using screws (and possibly masonry plugs)
compatible with the surface.
4.3 FAN FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
Preparation
Refer to fig. 1 on the front cover for the fan assembly
details. Take the complete fan from the carton and
remove the grille (3). Remove the fan assembly (4) by
undoing the two screws on either side of the fan.
Place the fan assembly and the grille back into the
carton for protection.
4.4 SURFACE MOUNTING
(i)
Using the template provided mark the three fixing
holes and the centre of the exhaust spigot on the fixing
surface.
(ii) Cut the 110mm diameter hole.
(iii) Drill and plug the three fixing holes.
(iv) Clear knockouts for either recessed or surface
wiring in the fan housing (2).
(v) Where 100mm diameter tube is used, this should
be grouted into position flush with fixing surface and
the self-adhesive foam sealing strip (5) fixed around
the exhaust spigot on the fan housing.
(vi) Feed approximately 200mm of the installation
cable into the fan housing. Either push the exhaust
spigot into the plastic tube, or attach to 100mm Vent-
Axia flexible ducting using 100mm worm drive clips.
Secure the housing with the fixing screws (5).
4.5 RECESSED MOUNTING
