14. Troubleshooting

PROBLEM
Engine will not start
Engine will start but
will not accelerate.
Engine will start, but
only run at full throttle
on half choke
Engine does not attain
full speed, and sends
out a lot of smoke.
Engine starts, runs,
and accelerates, but
will not run in idle.
Trimmer string cannot
be pulled ahead.
Grass gets wrapped

POSSIBLE CAUSE

SOLUTION
Inspect spark plug. Take spark plug out, replace
spark plug cap, and lay spark plug on the metal
cylinder. Pull start cord, and see if there are
sparks at the end of the spark plug. If there are
no sparks, repeat procedure with a new spark
plug.
Press the primer ball. If the problem continues,
contact dealer/service center.
Remove spark plug, and turn trimmer upside
down, so that the spark plug hole is turned
toward the ground. Move choker to ‖Run‖, and
pull start cord 10 to 15 times. Clean spark plug
and re-install or possibly replace with new plug.
Pull start cord 3 times with choker in ―Run‖
position. If the engine does not start, move
choker handle to ―Choker‖, and attempt normal
starting procedure. If engine still does not start,
repeat procedure with a new spark plug.

Clean threads, and grease them. If that is not
sufficient, replace spool with new one. Clean out
grass.
