3 Applications
The MFX-104 is a digital stereo effect unit with
16 different effects, e. g. Delay, Reverb, Gated
Reverb, Chorus, Flanger, etc. and various effect
combinations. In an audio system, the effect unit
is used to modify the sound. It is inserted in the
signal path, e. g. between the microphone and
the amplifier or in the effect way of a mixer. The
MFX-104 is both suited for professional applica-
tions (e. g. studio, stage, discotheque) and pri-
vate applications (e. g. home recording).
voltage. Leave servicing to skilled
personnel only. Inexpert handling
or modification of the unit may
result in electric shock.
, or coloured green or
If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which will not be
harmful to the environment.
4 Setting Up and
Connecting the Effect Unit
.
The MFX-104 is designed for installation into a
rack (482 mm / 19"), but it can also be used as a
tabletop unit. For rack installation, 1 RS is re -
quired (RS = rack space = 44.45 mm).
Prior to making or changing any connections,
switch off the effect unit and the units to be con-
nected.
1) Insert the effect unit in the signal path of the
audio system according to the signal source
used:
— Line mono signal source
(e. g. output of a musical instrument, Effect
Send output of a mixer)
Connect the signal output of the unit to
be connected to the XLR or 6.3 mm jack
LEFT IN (18).* Disengage the button IN -
PUT SELECT (6) [position LINE] and set
the switch STEREO MONO (19) to the
position MONO.
— Line stereo signal source
(e. g. master signal output of a mixer)
Connect the signal outputs of the unit to be
connected to the XLR or 6.3 mm jacks
RIGHT IN and LEFT IN (18).* Disengage
the button INPUT SELECT (6) [position
LINE] and set the switch STEREO MONO
(19) to the position STEREO.
— Microphone
Connect the microphone to the XLR or
6.3 mm jack LEFT IN (18).* Engage the
button INPUT SELECT (6) [position MIC]
and set the switch STEREO MONO (19) to
the position MONO.
Connect the OUTPUTS (17) to the line inputs
of the subsequent unit (e. g. amplifier). When
returning the effect signal to a mixer, either
connect only one of the OUTPUTS to the
mono return input of the mixer or, for stereo
effects, connect both outputs to two input
channels of the mixer.
2) To operate the functions of the buttons TAP/ F1
(9) and BYPASS/ F2 (11) by remote control
via two footswitches (e. g. FS-70 from "img
Stage Line"), connect the footswitches to the
jacks BYPASS/ F2 (15) and TAP/ F1 (16).
3) Finally connect the mains cable provided to
the mains jack (13), then connect the mains
plug to a socket (230 V~ / 50 Hz).
* 6.3 mm jacks and XLR jacks may be connected at
the same time; however, the 6.3 mm jacks will de -
activate the corresponding XLR jacks.

5 Operation

1) Switch on the effect unit with the POWER
switch (12). The POWER LED next to the
button will light up. The LED CLIP (1) and the
LEDs of the buttons TAP/ F1 (9) and
BYPASS/ F1 (11) will flash for a few seconds
until the settings of the last operation have
been activated. Then the unit will be ready for
operation.
2) To make the subsequent settings audible, set
the controls INPUT LEVEL (2), DIRECT (3),
EFFECT (4) and OUTPUT LEVEL (5) to mid-
position (position 5) for the time being. Feed
a signal to the effect unit and switch on the
units connected to the MFX-104. If the LED
ON above the button BYPASS/ F2 (11) lights
up, press this button; otherwise no effect will
be audible.
Note: If the effect signal is mixed to the direct sig-
nal in the mixer, set the control DIRECT of the
MFX-104 to "0".
3) To adjust the input level, turn up the control
INPUT LEVEL to such an extent that the
