A General description Barracuda 9FC disc drives are high-speed, random-access digi- tal-data storage devices designed to be used within a Fibre Channel host system. The drive is a component for installation in an enclosure designed for the drive. The disc drive must receive adequate cooling (refer to “Providing adequate cooling”) and it must be sufficiently grounded and shielded from emissions.

A Installing the ST19171FC drive To install a ST19171FC drive, simply plug the drive directly into your system’s Fibre Channel backpanel 40-pin single connector attachment (FC-SCA). There are no jumpers or terminators on the drive, and power is supplied through the connector. Table 1 on page 21 lists the pin descriptions of the 40-pin FC-SCA.
