Circular Saw Safety

WARNING. Before connecting a tool to a power source (mains switch
power point receptacle, outlet, etc.) be sure that the voltage supply is the
same as that specified on the nameplate of the tool. A power source with a
voltage greater than that specified for the tool can result in serious injury to
the user, and damage to the tool. If in doubt, do not plug in the tool. Using
a power source with a voltage less than the nameplate rating is harmful to
the motor.
• Do not allow anyone under the age of 18 years to operate this saw
• When operating the saw, use safety equipment including safety goggles
GB
or shield, ear protection, dust mask and protective clothing including
safety gloves
• Hand-held power tools may produce vibration. Vibration can cause
disease. Gloves may help to maintain good blood circulation in the
fingers. Hand-held tools should not be used for long periods without a
break
• Always use recommended blades with correct size and shape of arbor
holes e.g. diamond or round. Blades that do not match the mounting
hardware of the saw will run eccentrically, causing loss of control
• Whenever possible, use a vacuum dust extraction system to control
dust/waste
• Power tools must always be held by the insulated gripping surfaces
when performing an operation, ensuring protection if the cutting tool
makes contact with its own cord or hidden wiring. Contact with a 'live'
wire will make exposed metal parts of the power tool 'live' and shock
the operator if the insulated gripping surfaces are not used
• Ensure hands are kept away from the cutting area and blade. Keep
one hand on the auxiliary handle or motor housing. If both hands are
holding the tool they cannot be cut by the blade
• Do not attempt to cut material thicker than detailed in the Specifications
section of this manual
• Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece i.e. less than
a full tooth of the blade should be visible below the workpiece
• Ensure that work is correctly supported. Large panels may sag under
their own weight and bind the saw blade. Supports must be placed
under the panel on both sides, close to the line of cut and near the edge
of the panel
• Ensure all supports and power cables are completely clear of the
cutting path
• Always secure the power tool to a stable platform, ensuring body
exposure is minimised, avoiding blade binding, or loss of control
• For accuracy of cut, and to avoid blade binding, always use a rip fence
or straight edge guide
• Be aware that the blade will project from the underside of the workpiece
• Do not reach beneath the workpiece where the guard cannot protect
you from the blade
• Note the direction of rotation of the motor and the blade
• Inspect the workpiece and remove all nails and other embedded objects
prior to starting work
• Do not apply any sideways or twisting force to the blade whilst cutting
• If a cut does not extend to the edge of the workpiece, or if the blade
binds in the cut, allow the blade to come to a complete stop and lift the
saw out of the workpiece
• Do not attempt to free a jammed blade before first disconnecting the
machine from power
• Beware of projected waste. In some situations, waste material may be
projected at speed from the cutting tool. It is the user's responsibility
to ensure that other people in the work area are protected from the
possibility of projected waste
• If you are interrupted when operating the saw, complete the process
and switch off before diverting your attention
• The blade bolt and washers were specially designed for your saw. For
optimum performance and safety of operation never use damaged or
incorrect bolt/blade washers
• Regularly check the operation of the blade guard. If the guard does not
automatically cover the blade, have the saw repaired before use
• Periodically check that all nuts, bolts and other fixings have not
loosened, tighten where necessary
• Do not use this saw to cut logs
• When cutting round wood, use clamps that prevent the workpiece from
turning on both sides of the blade
• Do not remove cut-offs or other parts of the workpiece from the cutting
area whilst the machine is running and the saw head is not in the rest
position
• Do not slow or stop a blade with a piece of wood. Let the blade come to
rest naturally
• Do not store materials or equipment above a machine in such a way
that they could fall into it
• Do not lock the movable guard in the open position and always ensure
that it is working properly, freely rotating and returning to completely
cover the blade
• Use saw blades which are suitable for the material to be cut
• Do not use saw blades with dull and worn teeth they can be dangerous
to work with and cause damage to the motor of the tool. Either replace
or take such saw blades to a professional re-sharpening service. As
blade teeth wear they may not be suitable for hard woods but may still
be suitable for soft woods
• Use only saw blades recommended by the manufacturer which conform
to EN 847-1
• Do not use saw blades manufactured from high speed steel
• When cutting materials especially composite materials the dust may
contain toxic particles so respiratory protection must be worn
