Connection for networking smoke detectors (see Fig. 4)
1. Remove the terminal from the detector in an upward direction.
2. Strip the wires (approx. 6 mm).
Note : Wires stripped too long can cause short circuits, wires
stripped too short do not provide any contact!
3. Insert the stripped wires as far as possible into the spring-loaded
terminals of the connecting terminal. The two superposed contacts
are connected through.
Pay attention to the polarity.
4. Insert the connecting terminal in the detector. Place the detector in
the base and turn it clockwise until it locks in position (possible only
when battery is inserted correctly).
5. Carry out a functional check according to chapter 10.

Maintenance and care

The following points are to be observed in order to ensure the functional
safety of the smoke detector over a long period:If the smoke detector
emits a short acoustic signal accompanied by flashing of the LED at 45
second intervals, the battery has to be replaced within the next 30 days.
Use only a 9 V alkali-manganese block battery according to IEC 6LR61.

Monthly
Carry out a functional check once a month (see Chapter 10).
Every six months
Maintenance should be carried out approximately every six months (or
when malfunction is indicated). To do so proceed as follows:
1. Remove the smoke detector from the base (turn anticlockwise).
Detach module, if any.
2. Carefully remove the dust using a paintbrush or the like. Do not use
compressed air for this purpose.
3. Wipe the smoke detector with a damp cloth.
4. Insert the smoke detector (with inserted module, if any) back into
the base and turn it clockwise until it locks into position.
Attention: The smoke detector cannot be locked in the base if a
battery is not inserted.
5. Check whether the automatic self-test is carried out (the LED in the
smoke detector flashes every 40 seconds).
6. Carry out a functional check (see Chapter 10).
We recommend replacing the smoke detector after 10 years.

12. Radio/relay module
It is possible to equip the smoke detector with a radio or relay module
(extras).
Radio module: Wireless networking of detectors by radio
Relay module: Control of external alarm annunciators with own current
supply by way of break contact (e.g. horn, flashlight) as
well as link to Instabus EIB (language module) possible

Notes: A combination of wired networking and radio or relay
module is possible.
The modules are accompanied by separate instructions.

Note:
The mounting of radio and
relay module is identical.
- Remove the smoke
detector from the base by
turning anticlockwise.
- Hold the module in question
on the side and place it into
the designated slot.
Pay attention that the
contacts pins on the
module are not bent.

Guarantee declaration

We give a guarantee on the article of 12 months as from purchase by
the end-user if the device is not modified, is fitted properly by a skilled
electrician and the maximum connected load is observed. In case of
complaints which are due to a fault in material stemming from within the
guarantee period, the company will provide replacement free of charge
if the defective device is sent in together with the receipt and the defect
is specified. The liability for defects does not relate to damage incurred
in transit or damage resulting from failure to observe the mounting
instructions and national installation directives (e.g. in Germany the VDE
directives).
The guarantee does not cover the supplied battery
In the event of a defect, please send the device together with the
guarantee slip directly to Merten GmbH & Co.KG.

Operation

The smoke detector detects fire from the smoke it forms.
When the measuring chamber is smoke-free again after an alarm, the
detector automatically reverts to the stand-by mode after approx. 30
sec.
The evaluation of smoke is constantly checked in a self-test. Any
malfunction, e.g. as a result of dirt, is indicated by a fault signal (signal
sound and LED).
The battery test continuously checks the supply voltage. As soon as the
battery voltage drops below a defined point, the smoke detector
indicates typically for 30 days that the battery has to be changed.
During this time the smoke detector is fully operational.
