The handpiece should only be operated with a bur securely in place. Caution: Do not use
burs that are inappropriate (too long or short) for the handpiece. Burs must be able to be
seated and locked in the chuck. Athena Champion does not recommend the use of oral
surgery burs at any time in our handpieces.

For Jacob Chuck model:
1. P lace bur changer (wrench #68010) over handpiece head while pulling back the knob
(Figure 1).
2. L ightly push the knob down while turning lightly so the square tip of the tool engages
the square tip of the chuck (Figure 2).
3. T o loosen the bur, rotate the wrench handle 1/4 to 1/2 turn counter
clockwise (Figure 3). Reverse to tighten.
Important: Do not over tighten. Do not tighten the chuck without a
bur or bur blank in place. This will damage the chuck.
For Autochuck model:
1. D epress the button at the head of the handpiece firmly while
pulling on the bur to remove from the chuck (Figure 4).
2. T o insert a bur, push firmly on the button and insert the bur
into the chuck until firmly seated (Figure 5).
3. Release pressure on the button to lock the bur in place. Pull on the
bur to ensure that it has been fully seated and locked.
Important: Do not depress the button while the handpiece is in
operation. This will release the chucking mechanism, the bur may be
released prematurely and excess heat may be generated. Do not use
the handpiece to retract the cheek or other soft tissue.
