DRUM TRIGGER
DT10
Thank you for purchasing the YAMAHA DT10 DRUM TRIGGER. The DT10 is easily installed on any acoustic
drum head or shell. The trigger is highly sensitive and produces distinct, reliable trigger signals for attached
YAMAHA DTS70 etc.
For long service and full benefit from all the capabilities of the DT10 Drum Trigger, please read this manual
thoroughly and keep it in a safe place for future reference.
I DT10 FEATURES
• The DT10 uses a highly sensitive piezoceramic sensor to generate distinct trigger signals. The unit is especially designed to
minimize false signals such as those caused by double triggers.
• The sensor head is molded from a highly durable plastic resin. The sensor head is lightweight and will not affect the natural
sound of the drum.
• The DT10 can be attached to the drum shell. This eliminates the need for removal and transfer of the sensor head when the
drum head is changed.
• The trigger unit is also easily attached to instruments other than drums; the same reliable trigger signal will be generated.
• A cable clamp securely holds the trigger unit in place and permits easy removal when required.
• A thick clamp cushion absorbs irregular vibration and keeps the trigger cable away from the drum rim.
I SENSOR LOCATIONS
[Drum head]
• For broader dynamic range and higher sensitivity, install the sensor onto the drum head that will be struck.
• Place the sensor near the edge furthest away from the musician; this will prevent double triggering and striking the sensor
inadvertantly.
• If continued or irregular vibration of the head occurs, double triggering may result. If this happens, mute the vibration by
applying tape or cloth to the surface of the drum head. For best results, a YAMAHA mute ring is recommended.
• When the sensor is installed on a bass drum, after normal attachment of the sensor to the drum head, apply a 2" x 3" piece
of tape over the sensor.Ensure that the sensor is held firmly in place to withstand the large vibrations of the bass drum
head.
[Drum shell]
• Install the sensor onto the drum shell when double triggering is likely or when drum head vibration is minimal. For
example, a tom-tom is best suited for a sensor installed on the shell.
• Position the sensor close to the rim and close to the drum head being struck. As well, place the sensor away from the
influence of vibration from neighboring drums.
I INSTALLATION
1. Thoroughly clean all dirt and oil from areas of the drum head or drum shell where the trigger parts are to be applied.
2. Peel the backing off of the adhesive tape on the sensor head.
Place the sensor at the desired position and firmly press. Hold in place for a few seconds.
3. Peel the backing off of the cable clamp adhesive and attach the clamp to the drum shell in a spot where the clamp will not
interfere with musical performances.
I SENSOR REMOVAL
• The sensor must be removed when changing drum heads. Before loosening the drum head, carefully insert a knife or flat
blade under the sensor and lightly pry to remove.
• After removal, clean off any adhesive agent remaining on the sensor.
• When removing the sensor, do not pull on the connecting cable; severe damage may occur.
# Read the trigger converter operation manual thoroughly for the correct interface with the DT10. Set each parameter of the
trigger converter to the most suitable value for the DT10 trigger signal.
# In extreme conditions such as long periods of use or excessive vibration, the sensitivity of the sensor will decrease.
Changing the adhesive tape and firmly reattaching the sensor may improve the response. If there is no improvement, the
sensor must be replaced.
# There are many ways to install and mount the acoustic drum trigger.
The possibilities are endless. The DT10 is flexible enough to use for many purposes. Experiment with a variety of
installation methods. The DT10 Drum Trigger will open up a whole new world of sound experiences.
