Handling
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet! Wall plug
transformers have the potential to cause a fatal electric shock!
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a
warm one. The condensation that forms might damage your unit. The wall plug
transformer also poses a risk for a potentially fatal electric shock!
Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to the power
supply and putting it into use. This may take several hours.
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the installation location and during trans-
portation:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold (<5 °C) or heat (>35 °C), direct sunlight,
- Dust or fl ammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations, impacts or blows,
- Strong magnetic fi elds such as those found close to machinery or loudspeakers
• Any maintenance or repair work may only be performed by an authorised repair
shop.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor
pinched.
Setting up an Internet connection
Due to the large number of different operating systems, a detailed description is unfortunately
impossible. We recommend that you research the exact procedure on another computer with
an existing Internet connection. On the Internet, you will fi nd detailed descriptions for each
operating system.
Tips and Notes
• When establishing a dial-up connection in Windows, you must select the correct RS232 port,
to which the modem is connected (e.g., COM1 or COM2 etc.).
• It is almost impossible to download large amounts of data (such as updates to Windows or
other programs) using an analogue modem. Not only because it takes a long time, but also
because it involves high costs.
You are therefore advised to switch off, selectively, the update features in Windows and other
programs. Disadvantages: Updates not only offer new features (for example, newer versions
of the Internet browser) but also frequently eliminate bugs, or protect against dangers (anti-
virus programs, etc.).
• Windows and many other programs often incorporate an Internet connection (e.g. to request
updates, for registration, etc.). With a DSL fl at rate, this is not a problem, however, with an
analogue dial-up connection there will be costs incurred from the Internet provider! If you do
not make or break a specifi c Internet connection, a permanent dial-up connection can be
expensive!
An existing telephone fl at rate for calls to fi xed networks does not cover the ISP
costs !
For this reason, break the internet connection in Windows (e.g., click the corresponding icon
in the menu bar and cut the connection) or switch the modem off (Power ON/OFF switch on
the back of the modem).
Maintenance and Cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for any
reason.
Only use a clean, soft and dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as
these can cause discolouration.
Do not press too strongly on the surface when cleaning, to prevent scratch marks.
Disposal
Electrical and electronic products do not belong in the household waste!
Please dispose of the product, when it is no longer of use, according to the current
statutory requirements.
