Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequen-
tial damage!
Nor do we assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by
improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such cases,

• The unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the product is not permitted for
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The product is not a toy. Keep devices that operate on the mains voltage out of the
reach of children. Therefore, be especially careful when children are around.
Use the product where it is out of the reach of children.
• The product is only intended for use in dry, indoor locations. No part of the product
should become damp or wet; never handle it if your hands are wet!
Wall plug transformers have the potential to cause a fatal electric shock!
• The design of the wall plug transformer complies with Protection Class II. Use only
a standard mains socket as the power source for the wall plug transformer.
• Only use the enclosed wall plug transformer to power the modem.
• Do not pull the wall plug transformer from the mains socket by pulling on the cable.
Hold it on the sides of the casing and pull it out of the mains socket.
• If the wall plug transformer is damaged, do not touch it; there is danger to life from
electric shock!
First, switch off the mains voltage to the socket to which the wall plug transformer
is connected (switch off at the corresponding circuit breaker or, for example re-
move the safety fuse or switch off at the corresponding RCD protective switch, so
the socket is fully disconnected).
You can then unplug the wall plug transformer from the mains socket. Dispose of
the faulty wall plug transformer in an environment-friendly way, do not use it any
more. Replace it by a wall plug transformer of the same design.
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
falls, even from a low height.
Driver Installation, Connection
www.conrad.com
• Exit the operating system and switch off your computer.
• Connect the modem via the enclosed RS232 cable to a free RS232 port on your computer.
Version 11/12
• Finally, connect "Line", on the back of the modem, to an analogue telephone connection. A
TAE-N cable is attached for the TAE telephone jack.
• Connect the enclosed wall-plug transformer's low voltage power plug to the corresponding
socket on the modem and plug the wall-plug transformer into a standard mains socket.
• Turn on the modem; the "Power" LED will light up. Then switch on your computer, and wait
until the operating system has booted fully.
• Place the enclosed CD into an appropriate drive on your computer.
Installation with Windows 7:
Start the operating system's hardware detection. This should detect an analogue modem.
When it is marked with a yellow exclamation mark, click the modem with the right mouse key
and perform a driver update. Then, select the directory matching the operating system (e.g.,
"Driver\Win7_64" for Windows 7/64bit).
If the operating system displays a warning message, ignore it and continue with the installation.
Windows will eventually fi nd the appropriate driver (e.g., "Conexant V92 Data Fax Voice Mo-
dem").
Installation with Windows XP:
Start the "Setup.exe" installation program in the "Driver\Win2K_XP" directory, and follow all
the instructions.
• It may be necessary to restart Windows, before the modem will function properly.
Choosing an Internet Provider
Depending on when, how often, and where you need an Internet connection, you should
choose a suitable Internet Service Provider.
On another computer that already has an Internet connection, you can search for phone
number, access data and costs involved with an Internet connection.
An important factor in the selection of the provider is not only that the rate is favourable, but also
that the speed is as high as possible.
With cheap providers in particular, it may happen that there are many other people also trying to
dial - which results in either a slow connection or a low data transmission rate. Finally, not only
is the price per minute important, but also the amount of data transferred per minute!
In order to make an Internet connection, it may be necessary to remove a phone
jack from the socket and replace it with the modem to be connected!
At the time of writing this manual, the drivers were located in the "Driver" directory,
where there in subdirectories matching the different operating systems.
The procedure described below, or the directory name, may be different on the later
versions of driver CD.
In this case, consult the manufacturer's instructions (in English) on the enclosed CD.
Note that the rates change frequently, especially with smaller providers. For this
reason, you should check your chosen rate regularly (at least once a week) to avoid
any surprises when the monthly phone bill arrives.
Some providers change the rate hourly. A provider who appears to be particularly
favourable, may suddenly become the most expensive one.
Therefore, select the provider carefully - selecting the cheapest provider may not
always be best!
