• Hold the outdoor unit up to the intended mounting location. Check that important components
such as license plate lighting or rear lights are not hidden. The outdoor unit may not protrude
the vehicle either. The opening of doors or lids must not be impeded or made impossible.
• Mount the outdoor unit at the centre of the vehicle rear as shown in the following illustration.
It's not essential to use the mounting pads included. If you find it easier to install only
one mounting bracket, you can do without the pads.
• Check whether your vehicle already has a suitable opening that can be used to lead the con-
nection cable into the interior of the vehicle. Otherwise, you must drill a corresponding hole in
a suitable spot. Be sure to fit a rubber bushing into the hole or seal it appropriately as water
may penetrate into the vehicle.
Electrical connection and first use
The electrical connection may be done only by a specialist.
To avoid short-circuits and any resulting damage to the product and the vehicle, the
negative terminal (earth) of the on-board battery must be disconnected during the
connection. Only re-connect the negative pole of the battery when the system is fully
connected and after you have checked the connection.
Follow the instructions from the vehicle's manufacturer to ensure that none of the
vehicle's saved data (time, radio stations, etc.) is lost.
Use only a voltmeter or a diode test lamp to check the voltage of the vehicle system
leads, as normal test lamps consume excessive voltage and may thus damage the
vehicle's electronics.
Adhesive techniques which become ever more common and painted metal parts
impair the electric conductivity. Therefore, not every metal part is a suitable earthing
point.
When laying the cables, make sure that they are not squeezed or abraded on sharp
edges. Use rubber grommets for the lead-though points.
When laying cables in door frames, etc., make sure that no safety-related equipment
(such as side air bags) is affected. The cables may not be laid within triggering range
of the fully-expanded air bag.

1 Connect the buzzer connector to the corresponding connector on the cable to the outdoor
unit.
2 Plug one of the yellow video plugs of the video cable into the yellow video jack on the out-
door unit. Route the video cable to your monitor and plug the other yellow plug into the
appropriate video input.
3 If your monitor is capable of automatically changing the image connection of the rear view
camera via a 12 V signal line, use the red cable of the video cable and connect it to the
positive wire of a backup light and to the sensor input of your monitor (please refer to the
operating instructions of your monitor).
4 Connect the black wire of the red/black connection lead to an earth point near the backup
light. Connect the red wire of the red/black connection lead to the positive terminal near the
backup light.
Because the camera should only be activated when the car is in reverse, the power
supply is created through the backup light.
To identify the positive cable to the backup light and the earthing cable, either con-
sult the circuit diagram of your vehicle or measure the voltage directly at the backup
light with a voltmeter when the car is in reverse and the ignition is switched on. For
this purpose, naturally, the minus pole of the battery must first be reconnected.

5 Plug the connector of the red/black connection lead into the corresponding connector on
the cable to the outdoor unit.
6 The cable loop on the connection lead to the outdoor unit determines which video signal
standard is used for image transmission:
Cable loop closed → PAL standard
Cable loop open
→ NTSC standard
For the correct video format refer to the operating instructions of your monitor.
The functioning principle of the park assist system
If the vehicle is placed in reverse while it is running, the backup lights come on. Since the
park assist system is connected to one of the backup lights, thus, the park assist system also
switches on at the same time.
In the dark, the area behind the vehicle is illuminated with LEDs that are installed in the outdoor
unit.
Only the area to the back that is recorded by the camera appears on your monitor. The overlaid
coloured lines are used to evaluate the distance to obstacles.
In addition to that, the buzzer will emit a signal if an obstacle is in the detection area. The inter-
vals of the audible signal become shorter the closer you get the obstacle.
If the camera is exposed to extreme brightness, objects may not be clearly dis-
played. In fluorescent light, the screen may flicker.
Colours of objects shown on the monitor - especially in darkness - can differ from the
actual colours of the objects.

Care and cleaning
• Check the functionality at regular intervals.
• Clean the outdoor unit regularly. Do not use hose water devices, such as a steam jet.
• Never use abrasive cleaning agents, cleaning alcohol or other chemical solutions, since
these could damage the housing or even impair operation.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable material and do not belong in the household
waste. Dispose of an unserviceable product in accordance with the relevant statu-
tory regulations.
