DCF signal reception
The product has a so-called DCF function, meaning the time is automatically set by the receipt of a radio
signal (DCF77 signal), which provides highly accurate time information. The transmitter for the DCF77 sig-
nal (77.5kHz) is in Mainflingen near Frankfurt am Main. The DCF signal is transmitted continuously and has
a range of approx. 1500 km. If the alarm clock is located in the range of the transmitter and can success-
fully receive the DCF signal, the time display of the radio alarm clock is highly accurate and daylight savings
time is set automatically.
For more information about DCF reception, refer to the corresponding pages in the Internet.
Please observe the following information to ensure a correct reception of the DCF radio
signal.
The radio signal reception of the device can be impaired by sources of interference,
such as computers, mobile phones, TV sets, etc. Place the device in a considerable dis-
tance to such sources of interference.
Reception is also negatively affected by reinforced concrete walls and other materials
that block radio waves.
Experience has shown that reception is best in the vicinity of windows and at night
(less interference).
The quality of reception depends on the position of the device relative to the DCF trans-
mitter. If you do not have any reception, experiment a little with the positioning of the
clock.
Setup
Take care not to place the device in direct sunlight and protect it from vibration, dust,
heat, cold, and moisture.
When setting up the radio alarm clock, ensure a stable surface and safe stand, as the
device may injure persons or damage the floor or become damaged itself when falling
down. Place the device on a level and horizontal surface.
Do not place the device close to heat sources like e.g. radiators, as this would falsify
the temperature display. Excess temperature may also damage the device.
Inserting/changing the batteries
Make sure that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries (pay attention to posi-
tive and negative pole!).
Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Do not leave batteries lying around. Pets or
small children might swallow them. Risk of fatal injury! If swallowed, consult a doctor
immediately.
Batteries may not be short-circuited, opened or thrown into fire. Batteries must not be
recharged. Danger of explosion!
Only use new batteries of the correct size and the recommended type. Do not mix old
and new batteries. Chemical liquids may leak out of old or spent batteries and damage
the device. Therefore remove batteries from the device if you do not require it for a
longer period. Leaking or damaged batteries can cause burning if they come into con-
tact with the skin. For this reason you should use suitable protective gloves.
The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the radio alarm clock. Open the battery compartment
cover and insert two new micro batteries (type AAA) observing the right polarity. The correct polarity (plus
and minus) is shown by the inscription on the battery compartment. Close the battery compartment with the
cover. The display appears after the batteries are inserted.
Only use high-quality batteries to achieve as long a period of operation as possible. The use
of rechargeable batteries is not recommended, as their lower voltage and capacity reduces
the service life.
Change the batteries when the battery symbol
weak.
DCF reception
After inserting the batteries, the device attempts to receive the DCF signal for 10 minutes. The radio tower
symbol appears on the display (indication of a DCF reception attempt). The signal strength of the received
DCF radio signal is indicated by 4 different symbols in the shape of a radio tower.
Radio tower symbols:

Some buttons cannot be operated during DCF reception.
After completion of the DCF reception, the radio tower symbol appears permanently (not blinking). If the
device can complete the reception successfully, the time and date are set automatically. The device per-
forms DCF reception attempts daily.
