External Display for FLARM –
Installation Manual
V 5.1d / 26.02.2006
Installation of the external display
Stick the display with the provided double-sided adhesive tape to a clean
flat surface. The adhesive will cure within 24 hours. On rough surfaces
screw fastening is possible.
The display must be mounted in the aircraft in a position that allows the
pilot to read the display, hear the signals and push the Mode button
easily.
In order to avoid possible interference with the magnetic compass, the
display should be mounted at least 25 cm from the compass.
An opening of 16 x 16 mm is needed to fix the external display to the
instrument panel.
Connecting with FLARM
Single-seater wiring
For electrical connection, connect the provided
six-core cable to the socket of the external display
and the RJ12 socket of the FLARM (RJ12 = small
socket with 6 pins).
FLARM hardware version 1 (year 2004) is only equipped with one socket (RJ45) on the back. A Y-adapter is needed in order
to ensure that the power supply cable and the connection to the external display can be plugged in. The adapter is plugged
directly into the FLARM and thus provides two RJ45 sockets for the connection of both cables.
All FLARM and display versions are operational in any combination.
The Y-adapters RJ12 (3 sockets) and RJ45 (2 sockets, 1 plug) are standard telephone accessories; please make sure that
all six pins of the RJ12 make contact - as often only 4 pin versions are available commercially.
Additional six-core connecting cables and Y-adapters are available for purchase from your distributor.

The supplied 4-core connecting cable and possible Y-adapters are wired 1:1 (pin 1 of plug 1 connects to pin 1 of plug 2 etc.).
