Calibration of sound level meters
1. The sound level output of the calibrator is designed for 1-inch
microphones. If the diameter of your sound level meter is ½ inch,
please use the enclosed microphone adapter. For this purpose,
firmly plug the adapter onto the sound level output.
2. Set the On/Off switch and level selector switch to the desired
position (94 or 114 dB). You should select the level which is
closer to the maximum of the measuring range of the sound level
meter.
3. Place the microphone of the sound level meter to be calibrated
into the opening of the sound level output.
4. Switch on your sound level meter and check the indication on the
display. If the indication on the display of the sound level meter
varies by more than 0.5 dB from the output level (94 or 114 dB)
of the sound level calibrator, the sound level meter has to be
readjusted. By reversing the level selector switch (94 or 114 dB)
it is possible to check the linearity of the sound level meter.
5. Switch off the sound level calibrator after having finished the
calibration.
Important note!
Loud ambient noise and vibrations might affect the calibration.
Therefore, carry out the calibration in quiet surroundings.
Low air pressure at higher altitudes influences sound level
measuring. This has to be considered for calibration. Adjust the
respective indicating value at the sound level meter depending on the
altitude.
