Mounting and connection instructions for readers with scrambling keypad
1.

Application

The readers with a scrambling keypad are used in areas that require highly secure access control with
the increased security requirements for the combination of RFID transponder and a personal PIN.
The reader is available with three different radio frequency identification techniques: LEGIC, mifare
and proX1.
The key arrangement of the vandalism-proof PIN code keypad is random. After each activation, the
random key assignment is scrambled again and then displayed. The illuminated areas also serve as
key surfaces. As long as the digit display is activated, the desired PIN can be entered. In standby mode,
the "dark design" makes neither the keys nor the digits visible.

Functional description

The readers are intended for contactless identification of transponders (information carriers such as ID
chip cards). With readers having a scrambling keypad a combination of transponder and PIN code
must be used to execute a function. The key arrangement is random. After each activation, the random
key assignment is scrambled again and then displayed. Therefore the PIN cannot be determined
based on the order of the keys. The illuminated areas are also key surfaces.
To read a transponder, the reader sends out an electromagnetic field. As soon as the transponder is in
this field, it sends data in the "energy field" back to the reader.
Each transponder is unique.
The transmitted code together with the personal PIN from the reader are prepared so that the access
control unit can assume the subsequent processing, such as switching and control functions.
