Battery protection mode (deep discharge protection)
An intelligent battery management feature puts the energiser into Battery protection mode
when battery charge falls below a 'safe operating level'. When in Battery protection mode, the
energiser is still on, but it will not deliver a pulse to the electric fence. The energiser will resume
delivering pulses when the solar panel has charged the battery so that it is above the 'safe
operating level'. Alternatively, the battery can be disconnected, recharged with a battery char­
ger, then returned to the battery compartment and reconnected.
Run time extension (P35 only)
The output pulse speed varies according to the battery charge level:

To maximise the duration before the energiser automatically switches off, the energiser
progressively decreases the pulse speed and output energy.
The operating mode is determined by a combination of:
• the current battery voltage
• the sunlight available to charge the battery, and
• long term averages of each to determine seasonal effects

Battery charging

The solar panel can fully charge a flat battery in two weeks, provided the energiser is switched
off and there is adequate sunlight. The battery can also be charged for 12 – 24 hours with a
current not exceeding 1A using a suitable 12 V battery charger.
When fully charged, the battery should be able to power the energiser for 2 weeks (P50) up to
3 weeks (P35 and P70) with no sunlight.
Warning! The battery must be disconnected and removed from the energiser before connecting
it to a battery charger.
Energiser maintenance
Clean the solar panel regularly with a soft cloth using glass cleaner or a mild solution of deter­
gent and water. This will ensure the solar panel functions efficiently. When transporting the
energiser, protect the solar panel to prevent the glass surface from being smashed.
