1. A Short Description
The "Solution-D" system consists of
the following components:
• D-01 studio condenser
microphone,
• DMI-2 digital microphone
interface,
• RCS remote control software.
The D-01 is a microphone with dig-
ital interface which complies with the
AES 42-2001 standard. It operates
by means of an analog-to-digital con-

verter developed by Neumann
which receives the output signal di-
rectly from the capsule and converts
it into a 28 bit signal. This is followed
by digital signal processing (DSP)
which encompasses not only tradi-
tional microphone functions but also
various new functions which could
previously be carried out only with
additional equipment.
The key features of the D-01 are:
• extremely low self noise and
wide dynamic range
• especially clean sound transmis-
sion, free of coloration
• new functions via integrated dig-
ital signal processing
• all functions can be remote con-
trolled in accordance with the
AES 42-2001 standard, using re-
mote control software (RCS) in-
cluded in the delivery package.
The microphone is addressed from
the side. The front side is designat-
ed by the Neumann logo.
The microphone connects to the
2-channel DMI-2 microphone inter-
face. The output signals of the
DMI-2 (3-pin XLR) are formatted as
AES/EBU signals in accordance with
the AES 3 standard, and can thus be
connected to the AES/EBU inputs of
any digital equipment.
All parameters of the microphone
are controlled remotely via RCS re-
mote control software installed on a
computer. The computer connects
through its USB port to the DMI-2
microphone interface. In addition to
controlling the microphone, the soft-
ware also displays the static and dy-
namic information sent by the mi-
crophone.
The software for the microphone
and the DMI-2 can also be updated
via the RCS software.
1. Kurzbeschreibung
Das Mikrophonsystem Solution-D
besteht aus den Komponenten:
• Kondensatormikrophon D-01
• Digitales Mikrophon-Interface
DMI-2
• Bediensoftware RCS (Remote
Control Software)
Das D-01 ist ein Mikrophon mit di-
gitaler Schnittstelle gemäß dem Stan-
dard AES 42-2001. Es arbeitet mit
einem von Neumann entwickelten
Analog-Digital-Wandler, der das von
der Kapsel abgegebene Ausgangssig-
nal unmittelbar aufnimmt und in ein
28 Bit-Signal umwandelt. Anschlie-
ßend erfolgt eine Digitale Signalver-
arbeitung (DSP), die sowohl her-
kömmliche Mikrophonfunktionen als
auch diverse neue Funktionen um-
faßt, wie sie bisher nur mit zusätzli-
chen Geräten durchgeführt werden
konnten.
Die wichtigsten Eigenschaften des
D-01 sind:
• extrem niedriger Eigengeräusch-
pegel und sehr großer Dynamik-
umfang
• besonders saubere und verfär-
bungsfreie Klangübertragung
• neue Funktionen durch integrier-
te digitale Signalverarbeitung
• alle Funktionen fernsteuerbar ge-
mäß Standard AES 42-2001 durch
mitgelieferte Remote Control
Software (RCS)
Die Einsprechrichtung des Mikrophons
ist seitlich, die Vorderseite wird durch
das Neumann-Emblem gekennzeichnet.
Das Mikrophon wird an das zweika-
nalige Mikrophon-Interface DMI-2
angeschlossen. Die Ausgangssignale
des DMI-2 (XLR 3-polig) sind als
AES/EBU-Signal gemäß AES3-Stan-
dard formatiert und können somit
mit allen AES/EBU-Eingängen digita-
ler Geräte verbunden werden.
Sämtliche Parameter des Mikrophons
werden mit Hilfe der RCS-Software
von einem Rechner ferngesteuert.
Der Anschluß des Rechners erfolgt
über dessen USB-Port an das Mikro-
phon-Interface DMI-2. Neben der
Fernsteuerung des Mikrophons dient
die Software auch der Rückmeldung
statischer und dynamischer Informa-
tionen vom Mikrophon.
Software-Updates für Mikrophon und
DMI-2 können ebenfalls mit Hilfe der
RCS-Software durchgeführt werden.
