The exciting Miller High Life Squadronblends the nostalgia of
restored "Warbirds" from the SecondWorld War with a unique
form of aerial messageknown as "Skytypingl' These aircraft
performin promotionalappearancesat state fairs, air shows,
and sporting events throughout the United States. Flying in
tightformation five abreast, t hegleaming NorthAmerican SW's
utilize special smoke solutions that are transformedinto steam
whenthey are injected into the hot exhaust manifoldsand con-
dense into puffs of smoke when expelled into the cold airstream.
As the aircraft movethroughthe sky, the puffs of smoke are
ejected in unison and form letters. A completed messagemay
stretch for six to eight miles andremain legible for as long as
fifteen minutes.
The aircraft flown by the Miller HighLife Squadrffl are metic-
ulouslyrestored NONIAmerican SNJ'sthat werebuilt by North
AmericanAviation in 1940, and served with the United States
y Nav as advanced trainers.Theyare powered by nine-cylinder
radialenginesthat develop650 horsepower.Resplendentin the
strikingcolorscheme of the MillerBrewingCompany, the two-
seat Miller SNJ's can attain air speeds in excess of 200 miles
per hour and remain airborne nearly five hours. These in-
credibleflying machinesare fascinating to watch and represent
an interestingnew chapterin the SNJ's memorablecareer.
