HUD-2R-FXD
UK
Introduction
The HUD-2R-FXD is a battery-powered radio
device that is normally used to start a hold-up
alarm, otherwise known as a panic alarm.
Note: This guide assumes that the installer
has configured the device to generate hold-up
alarms. Please ask your installer to confirm
this configuration, and request alternative
instructions if the device has a different
purpose.

2-way and 1-way modes
Depending on your control unit, the installer
has set up your HUD-2R-FXD to use either
2-way or 1-way mode (see Device setup ).
The differences between 2-way and 1-way
modes are as follows:
•
In 2-way mode, the control unit operates
the LED on the front of the device. The LED
can show whether there is an unconfirmed
or confirmed hold-up alarm (see Starting a
confirmed hold-up alarm ).
•
In 1-way mode, the LED shows when an
alarm has been started at the device.
Note: The installer may have disabled the LED
(see Device Setup ).
To start a hold-up alarm
You can start an alarm by pressing both
hold-up keys simultaneously, or by pressing
either key (depending on how the installer has
set up the device; see Device Setup ).
If you are using 1-way mode, the LED
illuminates red for 10 seconds after starting
the alarm. If you are using 2-way mode, the
LED flashes amber.
The system does not need to be set to start a
hold-up alarm.
Starting a confirmed hold-up alarm
Note: A confirmed hold-up alarm can be
produced only if the installer has configured
the device for BS8243 (see Device Setup ).
BS8243 is available only for UK control units.
Note: Please ask your installer for details
of the effects of a confirmed hold-up
alarm. System operation will depend on
configuration.

The first press of the hold-up keys at the
HUD-2R-FXD causes the control unit to start
an unconfirmed hold-up alarm. A confirmed
hold-up alarm can be started in one of two
ways:
•
By pressing the hold-up key(s) at a different
device.
•
By pressing both hold-up key(s) at the
same HUD-2R-FXD for a different period of
time (2-way mode only). If the first press
is short (under 2 seconds), a second long
press (of over 2 seconds) will cause a
confirmed hold-up alarm, and vice versa.
The second press must occur within the "HUA
Confirm Time" period (default is 8 hours). If
the second press does not occur within this
time, the LED switches off.
If 2-way mode is used, the LED changes from
flashing amber to flashing red to signal that
there is a confirmed hold-up alarm.
Note: If there is a confirmed hold-up alarm,
pressing the key(s) at any HUD-2R-FXD will
cause its LED to flash red. This allows you to
find out the alarm status from any HUD-2R-
FXD, even if the device has not been used to
start or confirm the alarm.
Latched\unlatched operation
(1-way mode only)
If the installer has not enabled latched
operation (see Device setup ), the HUD-2R-FXD
transmits an alarm message each time you
start an alarm at the HUD-2R-FXD; there is no
need for a manual reset.
If latched operation is enabled and you start
an alarm at the HUD-2R-FXD, you cannot
start a further alarm at the device without
performing a local reset, even if the alarm is
reset at the control unit (e.g. using a keypad).
While the HUD-2R-FXD is in a latched state,
the LED flashes red periodically.
Resetting latched operation
To reset latched operation, press and hold
the hold-up keys for 5 seconds. The LED
illuminates green for 10 seconds to indicate
that the HUD-2R-FXD is reset.
Once reset, you can start another alarm from
the same HUD-2R-FXD.
Summary of LED operation
2-way mode
•
LED flashes amber every 2 seconds − the
control unit acknowledges that a hold-up
alarm has started (unconfirmed alarm
status).
•
LED flashes red every 2 seconds − the
control unit has raised a confirmed hold-up
alarm.
•
LED off − no current alarm (or LED
disabled).
