Introduction
The HUD-2R-FXD is a radio-operated hold-up
device (also known as a panic alarm).
The HUD-2R-FXD is compatible with
Scantronic Secure Radio (SSR) and Eaton/
Scantronic 868MHz (legacy mode) receivers.
Notes:
•
2-way and 1-way communication modes are
available in legacy mode. SSR uses 2-way
communication.
•
When installed in a partitioned system, the
HUD-2R-FXD can be used with only one
partition.
•
This product must be installed and
maintained only by qualified service
personnel.
2-way mode
Note: In legacy mode, two-way
communication is available only for later-
generation control units (see Specifications ).
2-way mode allows two-way communications
between the HUD-2R-FXD and control unit.
In 2-way mode, the control unit can operate
the LED on the front of the HUD-2R-FXD to
indicate a confirmed or unconfirmed hold-up
alarm.
Please refer to the HUD-2R-FXD User Guide
for details of LED colours and meanings.
Note: A confirmed hold-up alarm can be
generated only if Confirmation Mode is set to
BS8243, which is available only for UK control
units. The HUD-2R-FXD does not need to be
in 2-way mode to start a confirmed hold-up
alarm.

1-way mode (legacy mode only)
In 1-way mode, the HUD-2R-FXD can only
transmit information to the control unit. The
LED shows when an alarm has been started at
the HUD-2R-FXD (as described in the HUD-2R-
FXD User Guide ).
Installing the HUD-2R-FXD
Step 1: Check the location
Note: Do not mount the HUD-2R-FXD until
Step 7.
Radio performance may reduce if the device
is mounted near metal pipes, mains wiring,
metal surfaces, electronic equipment or radio
emitters, or near the floor.
Step 2: Configure the DIP switches
Note: Changes are actioned only when power
changes from an OFF to an ON state (Step 3).
Note: When in SSR or 2-way legacy mode, you
set LED on/off and dual/single operation using
the Program Zones installer option (Step 5).
1. Remove the front cover by releasing the two
screws on the front of the device.
2. Remove the batteries, if fitted.
3. Configure the DIP switches (see Fig. 2):
•
SSR / LEGACY − Select SSR or legacy
mode.
•
LEG1 / LEG2 (legacy mode only) − Select
1-way or 2-way mode.
•
LED ON / LED OFF (legacy 1-way mode
only) − Set to ON to enable the LED, or
OFF to disable the LED.
•
DUAL / SINGLE (legacy 1-way mode only)
− Set to ON if you require both buttons
on the HUD-2R-FXD to be pressed to start
an alarm, or OFF if you require only one
button to be pressed.
•
LATCH / UNLATCH (legacy 1-way mode
only) − Set to ON if you require users
to manually reset the HUD-2R-FXD after
starting an alarm from the device. A new
alarm cannot be started until the first
is reset. A reset is achieved by pressing
both buttons for 5 seconds, as described
in the HUD-2R-FXD User Guide .
Set to OFF if you want users to be able
to start a new alarm at the HUD-2R-FXD
immediately after the alarm is reset in the
normal way (such as at a keypad).

Step 3: Fit the batteries
Fit the batteries. Ensure correct polarity.
SSR mode: If the HUD-2R-FXD is in its default
state, the LED flashes red three times every
five seconds. If you do not see this, see
Resetting the HUD-2R-FXD.
Legacy mode: If you see the
orange rapidly, the
learnt in SSR mode and must be reset; see
Resetting the HUD-2R-FXD.
Step 4: Learn the HUD-2R-FXD
1. Take the HUD-2R-FXD to a keypad.
2. Use the Installer menu to add a new
detector, then press and release the tamper
switch when prompted.
SSR mode: The LED flashes red rapidly to
indicate the learning process has started,
and then green twice to indicate success.
The keypad also indicates success.
If learning is unsuccessful, the LED returns
to flashing three times every five seconds.
Try again at a position closer to the receiver.
Legacy mode: The red LED flashes a few
times and the keypad indicates success.
Step 5: Configure the HUD-2R-FXD
1. For SSR or 2-way legacy mode, use the
Program Zones option in the Installer menu
to configure the LED on/off, dual/single
operation and the partition (if applicable).
2. The default zone type for a 1-way HUD-2R-
FXD is "Normal Alarm" . Consider whether
you want to change this to "Hold Up Alarm" .
3. If you want the HUD-2R-FXD to be able to
start and report confirmed hold-up alarms,
set the Confirmation Mode to BS8243 (UK
only).
For further information, please refer to the
Installer Manual .
Step 6: Test the signal strength
SSR mode signal test:
1. In the Installer menu, select Test, Signal
Strengths, Detectors .
2. Take the HUD-2R-FXD to the exact location
where it is to be mounted.
3. The LED indicate the signal strength:
•
Flashing green – Good.
•
Flashing amber – Acceptable (minimum
required).
