The Demo-Mode
If no DMX signal is connected to the Spooky Blue Projector, the unit can run in Demo-Mode, using DIP
switch 10. The Demo-Mode starts an automatic display of 20 animations changing every 5 seconds. In
Demo-Mode, DMX input is disabled. The automatic mode does not support Sound-to Light function.

Laser safety

Every laser system with an output power of more than 5mW (class 3b) has to be equipped with an electronic
scan fail safe device, which shuts down laser output in a time range below 25ms. Your SpookyBlue contains
a brand new frequency triggered circuit to continuously control movement of the scanners, even if they are
open loop. If the electronic detects an unsafe condition, output is stopped and laser is shut down.
The circuit can do even more. A movement size detection ensures the minimum deflection size of the pattern.
This allows to power up the laser, since the MPE drops for minimum deflection size ratio.
If for some reason the DMX signal breaks down, the DMX cable gets disconnected, or someone unplugs the
DMX connector, the laser output is stopped within a few Milliseconds.

Cleaning and maintenance

The SpookyBlue does not contain any serviceable parts inside and should stay closed at any time. We
recommend a cleaning of the output window from time to time. Make sure to use mellow paper or soft
clothing stuff, so you do not scratch the coated surface of the window. Unwanted reflection could occur and
may lower projection quality.

Having trouble with the SpookyBlue Laserprojector ? Before sending back the unit for service, please read
the troubleshooting first.
Question: My Spooky Blue Laserprojector does not always start right away.
Answer: The external PSU starts the Spooky Blue in a special, so called, AUTO-On procedure. Due to
voltage fluctuations of your network, or strong inductive devices (e.g. motors, dimmer-packs or flasher), the
PSU might detect the error case. Disconnect the power plug from the PSU, wait for at least 30 seconds and
plug it in again. The Spooky should start working now. If you do not wait for 30 seconds, the Spooky won't
start (internal protection circuit). You now need to wait for 2 minutes until you can plug the 90-230VAC
connector in again.
Question: Some effects are brighter than others.
Answer: Depending on the blanking time and the scan speed of each animation, the laser output intensity
might vary. As each laser requires a couple of milliseconds to reach its full power, short impulse-animations
can cause the optical output power to be on average lower than long pulses with a long duration. This effect
is no fault of the system but a normal physical rule.
Question: In the beginning, the Spooky is extremely bright and then becomes less bright.
Answer: Each DPSS Laser needs time to warm up in order to reach its operating power. During this
warming up period, the laser power might fluctuate. Each Spooky is measured after 1hour of operation. This
procedure ensures that your Spooky Blue Laserprojector has the correct output power.
