3. Operation

3.1. Before commissioning

3.1.1 Machine setup

Inspect the tool and cutting tool for signs of wear or damage before use. If necessary, replace worn or
damaged parts. Blunt or damaged cutting tools can break, break the cable, and slow down the cleaning
process.
Free all handles and controls from oil, grease or dirt. This is to prevent the machine from slipping during
use.
Check that the foot pedal is connected to the device.
Make sure the switches and handles are moving and operating properly.
Turn the drum and make sure it turns freely.
Check that all warning labels are present, firmly attached and legible.
Make sure that the V-belt guard is securely fastened to the Drain Cleaner.
Make sure that the cable is not bent several times or overly. Replace cables with multiple or excessive
kinks.
Check for signs of excessive corrosion. Corrosion weakens the cable and makes it brittle. This can be
caused by wet storage of the cable or by the use of corrosive chemicals (often in chemical blockage
removers). Overly corroded cable should be replaced.
Pull the cable completely out of the machine before use. This will prevent the cable from "whipping"
when the machine is turned on.
Set the main switch to the OFF position.
Connect the power cord to a properly grounded outlet with dry hands and turn on the power.
Move the feed lever exactly between F and R positions, otherwise the cable will move in or out during
this test.
Press the foot switch and note the direction of rotation of the drum. If the footswitch does not control
the operation of the drain cleaner, do not use the unit until the footswitch has been repaired.
The drum should turn clockwise when viewed from the front.
Release the footswitch and allow the drum to come to a complete stop. Set the switch to the reverse
position and test the operation again to make sure that the drain cleaner is working properly backwards.
If the rotation is not correct, do not use the device until it has been repaired.
After inspection, turn the power switch to OFF, dry your hands, and unplug the Drain Cleaner.
After confirming that the drain cleaner is in good working order, check the work area in which you will
use the device.
