2. Intended purpose
This chapter describes the areas of application for which the product is
intended.
Use the product only for the areas of application for which it was designed. In
case of doubt, please ask Testo.
Fiberscopes are used, for example, for the inspection of cast components,
turbines, heat exchanger pipes, hydraulic and pneumatic components, and
milled and turned components with notches and interior bores. As a rule, burrs,
cracks, deposits, foreign bodies, residues and similar are to be identified.
For this purpose, light from a cold light source is fed into the fiberscope via a
fiber optic bundle, and leaves the fiberscope from the fiber optic bundle at the
other end of the instrument. The now brightly lit hollow space can be observed
and examined via a fiberglass cable with the help of optics which are situated in
the middle of the fiberscope. The sharpness of the image can be adjusted by
turning the focus.
A fiberscope is subject to a certain risk of damage due to its construction.
The main causes of costly repair work are:
· Sharp kinks in the probe
· Torsion, tension or pressure on the flexible component
· Crushing of the probe
