There are two requirements for proper barcode
scanning:
1. The laser beam must cross the entire
label.
2. The scanner must be pointed at a slight
angle (not perpendicular) to the barcode.

Correct scan — scanner
"sees" whole barcode label.
Incorrect scan — scanner
doesn't know where barcode
ends.

If the scanner is not operating properly, the following
checks should be performed.
ON
1. Since the scanner can receive its
power from the host computer or
an external power supply, it will
OF F
not operate without the system
power on or if the external power
supply has failed.
If an external power supply is used,
exchange the power supply with a
known good power supply.
If the scanner receives power from
the host, move the scanner to a
known good host.
2.
Verify that the interface
cable is securely attached to the
host. Consult your technical
support manager or refer to your
host system manual to verify the
proper connection for the SP400.
3. Verify that the interface cable is
securely attached to the scanner
handle.
4. Check that the labels are of suffi-
cient quality to be recognized by
the scanner. Wrinkled, smudged,
or torn labels can cause the scanner
to not read at all. If you suspect
that label quality is a problem, scan
a known good label to check the
scanner's read operation.
If the scanner still does not function
properly, contact your local supplier or PSC
Customer Support Services.

The SP400 is certified in the U.S. to conform to the requirements of DHHS/CDRH
21CFR Subchapter J for Class II laser products. The SP400 is also certified as a
Class 1 or 2 laser product to the requirements of IEC 825-1:1993.
Class 1 or 2 and Class IIa products are not considered to be hazardous. The SP400
contains internally a Visible Laser Diode (VLD) at a wavelength of 670 nanometers.
The scanner is designed so that there can be no human access to harmful levels of
laser light during normal operation, user maintenance, or during prescribed service
operations.
CAUTION
Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those
specified herein may result in exposure to hazardous laser light.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to open or otherwise service any components in the optics cavity.
Opening or servicing any part of the optics cavity by unauthorized personnel may
violate laser safety regulations. The optics system is a factory only repair item.
CAUTION
Use of optical instruments with the scanner will increase eye hazard. Optical
instruments include binoculars, microscopes and magnifying glasses. This does
not include eye glasses worn by the user.
D
ANISH
SP400 opfylder de amerikanske krav stillet i "DHHS/CDRH 21CFR Subchapter J"
for klasse II (class II) laserprodukter. SP400 er også godkendt som et klasse 1/2
(Class 1 or 2) laserprodukt, der opfylder kravene i IEC 825-1:1993.
repareres of PSC autoriserede reparationscentre.
