Balancinq
the tonearm
Precise
tonearm
balancing
is
important,
above
all
for
cartridges
with
a
low stylus
pressure.
The
tonearm
needs
only
be
balanced
once. However,
it
is
recommended
to
check the tonearm
balance
from
time
to
tirne.
The tonearm is
balanced
if it
remains
in
a
horizontal
position
when
suspended
freely
(moved
inward
from
its
resting
post)
and
if
it
returns
to
this horizontal position
if
pushed upwards
or
downwards.
Shifting the
counterbalance
(1) on
its shaft
balances
the
tone-
arm
coarsely;
turning the
front
knurled ring
of
the
counter-
balance
weight (1)
balances
the tonearm exactly.
1.
Set
the
tracking force (4)
to 0
and
the
anti-skating
device
(6)
to
"ott"
(pointer
to
left).
2.
Unlock
the
tonearm and
pivot
it
towards
the
centre
of
the
platter
over
the tonearm
rest.
Pressthe
LIFT
v
bulton
(11).
3.
lf
the
tonearm
does
not
return
to
a
horizontal
position
on
its
own,
release
the
locking
screw
(2)
and
shift
the
counter-
balance
with
the stem
until you
have
an
approximate
balan-
ce. The stem
of
the
counterbalance should
then
be
locked
by tightening the locking
screw.
4.
Now
f
ind
the
exact balance
by turning the
front
knurled
ring
of the counterweight.
Setting
tracking force
Each
cartridge
requires
a
certain tracking force
with
which
op-
timum
reproduction
is
obtained.
lf
you
purchased
your
Dual
with
a
factory-mounted cartridge,
you
will

tion for

sheet.
When
the tonearm
has
been
exactly
balanced,
the
tracking force
necessary
for
the
cartridge
is set
by
turning the tracking force
scale
(4).
Tht
tracking force
can
be continuously
set
within
the
range
from
0
to
20 mN
(0

, whereby
the digits
on
the
scale
represent
the following.

The unit works
rel
iably
from a
tracking
force
of
2.5
mN
(0.25 g) onwards.
Anti-skating
The skating
force
acting upon any tonearm
leads
to
one-sided
wear
of
the
stylus and
record and
can
cause
distorted
repro-
d
uction.
For
stylus types generally
available nowadays,
separate
setting
scales
are available
in
accordance
with the
printed
symbols:
O
Setting
for
spherical
styli.
o
Setting
for
biradial
(elliptical)styli.
Adjustment
of
the
anti-skating device
should be
carrted out
to
match
the setting
of
the
stylus
pressure:

lf
it

this
may be done
by
