INSTRUCTION MANUAL.

Before operation:
Remove the protection seal from the level contro! panel in
the front panel.
For your records
Record the serial number, found on the back of the unit, in
the spaces designated on the warranty card, and in the
space provided below.
Refer to the model and serial numbers whenever you call
upon your Kenwood dealer for information or service on this
product.

Be sure to turn off your amplifier before connecting or dis-
connecting speakers.
The LS-P5000D has a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, and
'will operate
satisfactorily with any amplifier designed
to
drive speakers of from 4 to 16 ohms.. Connect the input ter-
minals of the speakers to the amplifier-speaker terminals in
accordance with speaker location in the room (left or right)
to observe polarity marks.
Connect the (+) terminals on the
amplifier to the (+) terminal on the speaker and do likewise
for terminals marked (-).
Speaker phasing
Perfect stereo reproduction is achieved when speakers are
"phased" correctly (when the polarity marks are followed in
making Connections.)

Correct phasing
means
that the cones
in both speakers
move in the same direction in response to audio drive from
the amplifier. If the speakers are out-of-phase, sound waves
tend to cancel within the listening room. This effect is most
noticeable for bass tones.
Speaker system location
The acoustic characteristics of a speaker system are largely
determined by the listening room and the furniture in the
room.
Take the following into consideration to obtain the
optimum performance from your speakers.
@® The
optimum
distance
between
the
left and
right
speakers varies depending on different speakers and the
size of the listening room however, between
1.5 ~ 5m
(4.9 ~
16.4 ft) is normally appropriate.
With the opti-
mum
separation, the stereo effect is enhanced, sound
images are localized correctly and the bass response is
improved.
If the speakers are too far apart, the sound will
appear to. be excessively dispersed.
@ When
the speaker system is placed the optimum dis-
tance from the wall, the bass response will be enhanced.
The optimum distance between the rear of the speaker
and the wall is 5 ~ 50 cm (1-31/32" ~ 19-11/16"). If
the speaker is placed in the corner of the room, the bass
will be strengthened.

@ The directivity of the high frequency' speaker unit greatly
'affects the localization of Sound.
Normally, as the high
frequency sound spreads from the sound source at'an
angle of about 60°, the listening position should be within
the area covered by the right and left speaker system.
Place the speaker systems so that the front pdnels face
the listening position.
LS-P5000D
Level control
With the front grill pulled towards you and removed, you
will see a control on the front panel.
With this level control, the high freqency level can be adjust-
ed according to the acoustic characteristics of the listening
room or sound source.
Set the control to "NORMAL" for the normal listening room.
When the control is turned to the "MAX" side, the high fre-
quency level is boosted.
When the control is turned to the
"MIN" side, the high frequency level is attenuated.
To turn
the Level Control, use a (-) screwdriver or coin.
Overload protector
An overload protector (speaker-protection circuitry) is pro-
vided in this speaker system to protect the speaker unit
against excesssive input.
@ Incase of overloading, the power to the speaker is cut off
and LED indicator is lit. To restart; turn down amplifier
volume and press RESET button.
@ With
an
amplifier
whose
power
output
exceeds
the
power handling capacity of this speaker system, take
care not to apply excessive input.
Note:
The peak input power capacity of this speaker is. 250 watts. Do not
operate the speaker with power exceeding this limitation, as it may
damage the speaker.
