Translation of the original operating instruction (de)
1.
Proper use
Indexing plungers are used for quickly and precisely reproducing locked positions of
moving machine components as defined by indexing holes.
The indexing plunger is designed for quickly and reliably fixing parts, workpieces or
machine components in place. It can be used in all areas defined as per DIN EN 1672-2.
Any deviation from this proper use is prohibited.
2.
Preparation
It must be noted that the indexing plunger may only be used in combination with the
supplied sealing ring. The seal has a conical shape.
The correct installation position must therefore be observed (Fig. 1).
To achieve the required hygienic seal, the surface onto which the sealing ring is
mounted must be smooth and even, preferably of stainless steel with a surface
roughness < 0.8 μm.
3.
Mounting
When installing the components, it is essential that the surface of the indexing plunger
is not damaged. Use appropriate tools.
Attention must be paid to the corresponding clamping length to ensure correct sealing
(Fig. 1).
Ensure a sufficient distance from other installed components. This is necessary to
guarantee appropriate accessibility for cleaning.
To achieve the required hygienic seal, the surface onto which the sealing ring is
mounted must be smooth and even, preferably of stainless steel with a surface
roughness < 0.8 μm.
The mounting hole must be made such that the metal recesses within the sealing rings
rest as fully as possible against the underlying surface to enable tensioning against the
block (metallic stop) (tolerance of +0.05/+0.2). The sealing rings must rest fully against
the underlying surface (Fig. 2).
The parts can be installed both indoors and outdoors. When used outdoors, the seals
must be inspected at shorter intervals than when used indoors and replaced, if
necessary.
The installation position as seen in Fig. 1 guarantees that liquids will run off on their
own.
If installed horizontally, it is possible that water may not be able to run off on its own
from one of the gripping surfaces for screwing on the indexing plunger or from the
sealing nut.
If installed vertically with the knob facing down, liquid can collect in the area of the
wiper (knob) as well as on the sealing nut (around the wiper) and will be unable to run
off on its own.
This cannot be avoided by technical means. If necessary, the user must therefore take
care to remove standing liquids (e.g. by wiping).
The ambient temperature should not exceed 110°C.
Clean the indexing plunger after installation and before the first use
4.
Usage conditions
4.1. Temperature
-20 °C to +110 °C (caution: risk of burns)
4.2. Resistance
For the material AISI 316L, corrosion can occur after prolonged contact with high
chloride or acid concentrations. These substances can be found in service water,
foods, cleaning agents and disinfectants, for example. The material AISI 316 or
AISI 316L is resistant to ocean water for up to 2 years if cleaned daily with drinking
water.
We therefore recommend cleaning at shorter intervals and monitoring of the material
surface.
If corrosion begins to set in, the part should be replaced.
