BUFFER FLUIDS
The buffer fluids are used to calibrate the pH meter. These fluids have
the characteristic that their acidity only slightly changes with
contamination.
However, they do change eventually and therefore it is advisable to
renew the fluids after about 10 calibration processes. To do this, first
rinse the flask with a little of the buffer fluid and then refill. It is advisable
to store the buffer fluids in a dark place.
MEASURING WITH THE pH METER
The pH value is measured with a correctly calibrated meter according to
the following procedure:
1. Take a sample of the fluid to be measured in a clean beaker or
measuring flask and determine the temperature.
2. Rinse the probe in demineralized water and wipe with a tissue. Place
it in the sample and stir slightly.
3. Adjust the temperature with button TEMP of the sample on the meter.
4. Wait 1 minute until the probe has stabilized.
5. Read off the pH value ,
6. Rinse the probe in demineralized water and replace in holder
Please make sure that there is always a quantity of Probecare in the
holder for your probe and that you store the meter in an upright position
so that the reservoir does not leak and the bulb remains wet. The pH
value indicates the acidity of a solution.
In order to obtain an indication of the pH value, we give below a few
guidelines concerning pH values in substrates or different types of soil:
1 SUBSTRATES
A Rock wool, synthetic foam, recirculation systems, etc.
- Take samples in a clean jar
- In the case of recirculation systems, the outlet water can be sampled
- In the case of rock wool and synthetic foams, take samples from
around 20 points distributed throughout the greenhouse
pH
Evaluation
<
4,5 too low
4,6 - 5,3 fairly low
5,4 - 6,1 normal
6,2 - 6,9 fairly high
>
7,0 high
