(19) SPEAKERS
This switch enables you to select the following
speaker combinations:
"OFF": Headphones only, all speakers switched
off.
"A':
Speaker
set
connected
to
"A"
and
headphones switched on.
"B':
Speaker
set
connected
to
"B"
and
headphones switched on.
"A + B": Speaker sets connected to "A" and "B"
and headphones switched on.
(20) BASS
These knobs adjust the bass of each channel
individually.
(21) TREBLES
These raise and lowerthe intensity ofthe higher
frequencies.
(22) BALANCE LEFT/RIGHT
When
the BALANCE
control is in the centre
position, the playback signal will be divided
equally between
both channels. By turning it
RIGHT
or LEFT, the balance can be shifted
more or less onto the right or left channel.
(23) VOLUME
(24) LOUDNESS
OFF/ON
At low volumes, the human ear is, by nature,
much less sensitive to extreme bass and treble
notes than it is to the middle range. The BASF
D 6160
HiFi
Receiver
has been
designed
to
accommodate
this factor through
the intro-
duction of a device to raise the volume of the
more
extreme
bass and
treble
notes
at low
volumes.
This
device
can
be
activated
by
pressing the LOUDNESS ON switch. Inthe OFF
position, frequency response will be linear at all
volume settings.
(25) NOISE FILTER ON/OFF
In the ON
position, a noise filter is activated.
This will reduce the noise level (e. g. on old
cassettes
or a weak
radio
station)
without
noticeably affecting the tone.
(26) MUTING ON/OFF
The
muting
switch
is for the
purpose
of
suppressing
the
noise
between
individual
stations during FM tuning. However, in the ON
position, some
weaker stations may also be
suppressed. If you wish to hear these stations,
turn the muting function off.
(27) MODE STEREO/MONO
If you wish to combine both stereo channels to
form a mono signal, turn the switch to MONO.
In this way, it is possible to up-grade the quality
of
a
stereo
signal.
For
2-channel
sound
reproduction,
the switch
should
be brought
back to the STEREO position.
(28) This switch controls the playback of tape or
cassettes recorders, the equipment connected
to the rear panel of the Receiver ("A" and/or
"B"),
or
the
programme
source
you
have
chosen on the SELECTOR
switch (29). If you
possess a tape recorder with separate record
and playback heads, it is possible to achieve
immediate "after-tape" monitoring of a record-
ing, either over speakers, or over headphones.
Simply switch on the MONITOR
function on
your
3-head
deck,
and,
using
the
TAPE
MONITOR
on the D 6160, select the tape or
cassette recorder ("A" or "B") which you wish to
monitor.
The
Receiver
also
offers
the
facility
of
simultaneous recording on two tape recorders
connected to "A' and "B". Simply choose your
recording
source
on the SELECTOR
switch
(29),
and
switch
the
TAPE
MONITOR
to
"SOURCE".
(29) SELECTOR AM/FM/PHONO/AUX
Use this switch to select the required wave-
length
(FM
or
AM),
or,
alternatively,
a
programme
source
connected
to PHONO
or
AUX.
(30) AM/FM TUNING DIAL
(31) STEREO
When a stereo station is received, the stereo
indicator will automatically
light up. This, of
course, assumes that the MODE switch (27) is
set in the STEREO
position.
(32) FM/AM
This
indicates
which
wavelength
is being
received.
(33) TUNING (= CENTRE TUNING)
(34) SIGNAL (=FIELD STRENGTH)
Both indicators
(33) and (34) serve as tuning
aids
for the
Receiver,
helping
to minimise
background noise. Reception of an FM station
is at its best when the SIGNAL indicator gives
its highest reading and the TUNING indicator
points to the centre of the dial. AM reception is
at its best when the SIGNAL indicator gives the
highest reading. The TUNING indicator will not
register with AM reception.

(36) AM SCALE
