3.2 General safety instructions
• Read and understand the safety instruc-
tions every time you set up, operate, re-
pair, service the unit or replace any
grinder accessories or work in the unit's
close vicinity. Ignoring the above may
cause serious physical injury.
• Only appropriately qualified and trained
operators should set up, adjust or use the
grinder.
• To not modify the unit. Modifications may
reduce the effect of safety precautions
and increase the risk for the operator.
• Mind not to lose the safety instructions –
hand them out to the operator.
• Never use a unit if damaged.
• Periodically inspect the unit to check that
the unit has the requisite ratings and la-
bels on it and that these are clearly
legible. Employers/operators please con-
tact the manufacturer to obtain spare la-
bels and signs, if required.
3.2.1 Risks caused by flying parts
• In case a workpiece or accessory part or
even the actual unit breaks, parts may be
sent flying at high velocity.
• Always wear impact-proof eye protection
when operating the unit. Separately con-
sider the level of protection needed for a
specific use case.
• Check that the workpiece is attached
properly.
• Check that the abrasive is fixed in the
unit properly.
• Check that the abrasive's maximum op-
erating speed in revolution per minutes is
equal to or greater than the rated spindle
speed. Do not use brushes with the unit
whose speed is higher than the max-
imum permissible brush speed.
• Check that sparks or debris generated in
operation will not cause a risk.
• Unplug the unit from the power supply
before changing the abrasive or servicing
the unit.
3.2.2 Risk of entanglement
• Loosely fitting clothes, jewellery, neck-
laces, hair or gloves not held far enough
away from the unit or its accessories may
cause a risk of suffocation, being scalped
and/or cut.
3.2.3 Operational risks
• To avoid cutting your hands or other
parts of your body, avoid contacting the
revolving spindle and the grinding disc
mounted on it.
• Correctly hold the unit: Be prepared for
all standard or other sudden movements
– have both hands ready to respond ap-
propriately.
• Check to balance your body and mind to
stand securely.
