The crown (4) is used to set the slide-rule. By checking the scale positions,
you can calculate simple equations e.g. changing miles to kilometres or
sea miles to land miles or perhaps the rate of ascent or descent of an
aircraft. verage speeds or fuel-consumption are other results which can
be quickly calculated.
The scales, moving inwards, are as follows:
Count-down (Bezel 60-0 on the outer scale)
B
Third time-zone (Bezel 1-24 on the inner scale)
C
Slide-rule 'outer scale C', adjusting ring
with logarithmic table (white)
which can be turned using the crown (4)
D
Slide-rule 'inner scale D' which cannot be adjusted (black)
E
Second time-zone (e.g. UTC) or, if preferred,
a synchronised 24-hour indicator (white)
