Welding

1. Insert the jack of the electrode holder (H) into the positive + quick-lock
coupling (E) and turn clockwise to fix it. Insert the jack of the earth terminal
(I) into the negative – quick-lock coupling (F) and turn clockwise to fix it.
2. Make sure the potentiometer (A) is in position 0. Connect the plug to a wall
socket.
3. Before switching on the welding machine, wear appropriate safety
clothing.
4. Connect the earth terminal (I) with the work piece. Make sure the earth
terminal has good connection to the work piece. The earth terminal and
the connecting spot of the work piece have to be free from rust, grease
and coatings.
5. Insert the electrode into the electrode holder (H). To ignite the arc, hold
the electrode with an angle of approx 70° to the work piece and keep a
distance of approx. 10 mm from the point you intend to weld. Make sure
not to touch the work piece.
6. Turn the potentiometer clockwise. The indicator lamp (C) turns on. Adjust
the current strength according to the welding conditions.
7. Hold the shield in front of your eyes and touch the work piece with the
electrode. Once the arc is ignited, turn the electrode slightly back and start
welding. You can also strike the electrode on the work piece in order to
ignite the arc. Do not move the electrode too fast on the work piece.
8. Try some welding joints on a sample to check that you have the correct
electrode and current strength and to get a good practice. That way you
analyse and correct possible mistakes. If the electrode sticks on the work
piece, move the electrode fitfully to the side.

9. The welded work piece starts to glow and remain hot for some time. Allow
the welded work piece to cool down before you touch, finish or connect the
work piece to flammable objects. Before undertaking further treatment,
first remove the slag form the electrode coating. Use the slag hammer with
steel brush (J).
10. When welding several puddles make sure to get good penetration overall
and avoid inclusions.
11. After finishing work, disconnect the earth terminal from the work piece and
unplug from power mains.
