5) Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement
parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
WARNING
• To reduce the risks associated with hazardous voltage, impact from backup
pad, moving parts, or tool breakup, and sharp edges:
- Read, understand and follow the safety information contained in these instructions prior to the use of
this tool. Retain these instructions for future reference.
- Prior to use, inspect the entire tool, power cord assembly, and backup pad for possible damage. If
backup pad is damaged, replace with new backup pad from 3M. If tool or power cord assembly is
damaged, send to 3M authorized repair depot.
- Practice safety requirements. Work alert, have proper attire, and do not operate tools under the
influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Never allow this tool to be used by untrained people.
- Only personnel who are properly trained should service this tool.
- Do not modify this polisher. Modifications may reduce the effectiveness of safety measures and
increase the risks to the operator.
• To reduce the risks associated with hazardous voltage:
- Voltage and power frequency must match the data displayed on the identification label. Make sure
that tool is switched off before plug is connected.
• To reduce the risks associated with fire and/or explosion:
- Do not operate the tool in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids,
gases, or dust.
- Refer to SDS of material being worked as to potential for creating fire or explosion hazard.
• To reduce the risks associated with hazardous dust ingestion or eye/skin exposure:
- Use respiratory protection and eye protection as instructed by your employer and as required by
occupational health and safety regulations.
- Use appropriate respiratory and skin protection, or local exhaust as stated in the SDS of the material
being worked on.
• To reduce the risks associated with impact from backup pad, or tool breakup, and sharp edges:
- If you notice any abnormal noise or vibration when operating the tool, immediately discontinue its use
and inspect for worn or damaged components. Correct or replace the suspect component. If abnormal
noise or vibration still exists, contact 3M.
- On overhead work, wear a safety helmet.
- Tool is not to be operated in the presence of bystanders.
- Never operate this tool without all safety features in place and in proper working order.
- Never over-ride or disable the safety features of the start-stop control such that it is in the on position.
- Only use accessories supplied or recommended by 3M.
CAUTION
• To reduce the risks associated with skin abrasion or entrapment:
- Keep hands, hair, and clothing away from the rotating part of the tool.
- Wear suitable protective gloves while operating tool.
- Do not touch the rotating parts during operation for any reason.
