Air speeds in excess of 2 m/s can affect the protection factor of the complete apparatus.
•
• The ambient usage temperature should be between -10°C and +60°C.
Exceptionally warm or cold compressed air, a long supply hose and an extreme ambient temperature could affect the performance
•
of the VORTEX Air Conditioner.
If the free outlet is blocked, the flow of breathing air will increase, reducing the degree of cooling or heating of the supplied air.
•
Excessive air humidity, or excessive supply pressure, can cause the sound absorber on the cold side to freeze. The air flow from
•
the cold side will then reduce suddenly. Switch off the VORTEX Air Conditioner. After a few minutes, the VORTEX Air Conditioner
will have thawed out, allowing the work to recommence, reduce the supply pressure or change the position of the regulator valve;
so avoiding recurrence of the freezing. A defective compressed air de-humidifier or an air de-humidifier with insufficient capacity
could also be the source of such problems.
When combined use is made of the compressed air for both the air hood and the pneumatic tools (e.g. paint spray), it is necessary

to ensure that, at the maximum air consumption of the pneumatic tools, sufficient air is allowed to flow into the air hood. If necessary,
the working pressure can be adjusted.
• The system may only be used by trained personnel, who are also fully aware of the hazards applicable to the work being carried
out.
The shot blast helmet does not have EN 397 approval regarding safety helmets.
•
• The marking 'F' indicates that the apparatus and the compressed air supply hose can be used in situations where flammability may
be a risk.
• The compressed air supply hose is heat-resistant and anti-static.
2.2

Prior to use

• Make sure that the compressor is placed in such a way that it cannot suck in any dangerous matter and the air inlet cannot be
obstructed. Ensure the compressor is switched on. Check that the correct operating pressure is set and clean air meeting EN 12021
is supplied. If not, use an approved filter unit. Check that the compressor has been fitted with a suitable and adjustable pressure
relief valve and has been inspected and maintained regularly. Ensure that all components have been cleaned and inspected as
described in § 3, 4 and 5.
• In accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, ensure that the capacity of the air supply system is sufficient for every user
connected to it.
• Switching from cold breathing air to warm breathing air and vice versa (Fig.9).
Disconnect the compressed air supply hose. Remove from the belt, clean and inspect the VORTEX Air Conditioner, as described
in paragraph "Cleaning and disinfection" and "Maintenance and inspection". Unscrew the hose clamp. Turn and draw the hose
nipple, turn the VORTEX Air Conditioner and position the hose over the required air outlet. The red hose nipple near the regulator
supplies warned breathing air, and cooled breathing air flows through the blue hose nipple. Slide the hose clamp over the hose,
halfway on the hose nipple. Rescrew the hose clamp and replace on the belt. Reconnect the compressed air supply hose. Check
the hose system for leakage. Check the functioning of the system. Refer to paragraph "Maintenance and inspection".
Adjust the working pressure on the filter system to a minimum of least 5.5 bar for COMMANDER Series and 4.5 bar for
•
COMMANDER VORTEX. Connect the shot blast helmet using the compressed air supply hose to the filter system. Adjust the
headband to the correct length (fig. 5), and if required fit a disposable comfort hood. Fit the shot blast helmet on your head and
adjust its position to allow sufficient pressure to be created within the air cap (fig. 6).
• Adjust the belt buckle.

During use

Adjust the air volume according to requirements (fig.2). For COMMANDER VORTEX, the desired temperature of the breathing air

is reached within a short time. The integrated air flow indicator warms the user if insufficient air is being supplied. The airflow
indicator has been fitted in such a way that the red pennant will not be visible when the amount of air is sufficient and it will only
function when it is positioned vertically (fig. 7). For safety reasons, the regulator and the VORTEX cannot be completely closed.
Leave the working area immediately if there is an interruption in the air supply. Ensure that the compressed air supply hose cannot
be trapped, interfering with the air supply or preventing rapid evacuation of the work area. The shot blast helmet will not decrease
environmental sounds. Therefore supplementary hearing protection must be used.
The VORTEX Air Conditioner does not reduce the environmental noises. The use of supplementary audio protection is mandatory.
It is quite normal that a certain amount of air escapes from the unused air outlet.

After use

• After leaving the working area, unbuckle the belt, loosen the neck bib, take off the helmet and disconnect the air supply hose. Using
a brush or a cloth, remove loose residue and dirt from the components. Clean and inspect the components according to the
instructions given in paragraphs 3 and 4. When connecting and disconnecting, take care that no dirt enters the open hose
connections.

3. CLEANING AND DISINFECTION

After each session, clean the air hood using Honeywell EPI U-S 19a cleaning and disinfecting agent (part number 1779065). Subsequently,
rinse thoroughly with clean water (do not use solvents). The face collar or neck bib can be washed in a washing machine, using a mild
detergent at 30°C. Using EPI U-S 19a disinfectant, clean the inner surfaces of the air hood. Refer to the instructions given by the
manufacturer. For reasons of hygiene, the same person should preferably wear the air hood. Using compressed air, blow the coupling and
the regulator clean. Finally, using a dry cloth, dry all the metal components, to avoid corrosion. When cleaning, take care not to inhale
hazardous matter that is released during the cleaning.

4. MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION

Shot Blast Helmet
Positioning the disposable windows: after opening the window frame on the COMMANDER helmet, fit one disposable window (fig. 8).
Changing the cape: the bib/cape can be changed by pushing the rubber helmet cover partly back (fig. 10).
Compressed air filter system
