medi SAS
Intended purpose
The medi SAS 45 is a shoulder joint
support for immobilisation and stress
relief.
Indications
For all indications which require
immobilisation and stress relief of the
shoulder joint in abduction, such as:
• After rotator cuff repair
• Humeral head fractures (nonsurgical,
postoperative)
• After insertion of shoulder prosthesis
• After stabilization of acromioclavicular
joint dislocations
• After biceps tenodesis
• Impingement syndrome (nonsurgical,
postoperative)
Contraindications
All indications which expressly require
internal rotation or abduction of more
than 45° or less than 30°.
Risks / Side Effects
If the aids are too tight, this can cause
local pressure sores or constriction of
blood vessels or nerves. Therefore you
should consult the doctor treating you
before you use it if the following
circumstances apply to you:
• Condition or injury of the skin in the
area of application, particularly with
infectious indications (excessive heat,
swelling or reddening)
• Paraesthesia and circulatory disorders
(e.g. as seen in diabetes, varicose veins)
• Lymph drainage disorders – equally,
swelling of soft tissue adjacent to the
area of application which is not related
to a condition
When wearing snug-fitting aids, this can
result in localised skin inflammation or
irritation that is due to mechanical

®
irritation of the skin (particularly in
conjunction with sweating) or due to the
composition of the material.
Intended patient groups
Healthcare professionals should provide
care to the adults and children, applying
the available information on the
measurements/sizes and necessary
functions/indications and in line with
the information provided by the
manufacturer, and acting under their
own responsibility.
Important notes
Only change the angle of abduction on
the instructions of your doctor.

Fitting instructions

the medi SAS 45 is supplied in a single
universal size and has two options for
use, providing either 45° or 30° of
abduction.
• Loosen all the straps including the
hand section.
• Place the cushion on the hip of the
affected side and lay the shoulder
strap over the opposite shoulder.
Fasten the straps to the cushion with
the strip, first the back and then the
front. Attach one end of the hip belt to
the front of the cushion.
• Now secure the hand rest to the top of
the cushion with the hook and loop
fastener.
• Attach the two forearm straps to the
hand rest, and secure the upper arm
strap to the cushion slightly obliquely.
The upper arm strap prevents the arm
slipping backwards.
• Slip your arm into the sling and fasten
all the strips. Make sure that the straps
are not fastened too tightly. Simply
rotate the cushion to select 45° or 30°
abduction.
