• Handle the product with care; impacts, blows or falling from even low
heights can cause damage.
Operation, connection
• Connect the USB hub to a USB 2.0 port on your computer. You need not turn off your
computer for this step.
The operating system recognizes new hardware and installs the necessary drivers
automatically; they are part of the operating system.
The USB hub operates under the so-called "bus-powered mode", i.e.. This
means that the current the computer supplies ( as per standard 500 mA for
USB 2.0/1.1) is distributed to all four ports and the USB hub itself.
For this reason, the USB hub must be connected to a USB port that supplies
500 mA of current.
Keyboard USB ports cannot do so; connecting the product to another USB
hub with no internal power supply can lead to problems.
Therefore, connect the USB hub directly to the USB port on your computer/
notebook.
• Connect your USB devices to the USB ports on the USB hub. You need not turn off
the computer for this step.
Depending on the USB device, the operating system recognizes new hardware and
installs any necessary drivers. Read the your USB device's operating instructions
for information on how to proceed.
Your operating system (e.g. Windows) uses its own drivers to operate USB devices
(e.g. USB sticks, USB mice, etc.).
Important!
As described above, there is only 500 mA of current available for all connec-
ted USB devices and the USB hub itself.
This is sufficient, for example, for most mice or keyboards, but not for other
devices (such as external 6.35 cm / 2.5" hard disks). Connect such devices
directly to a USB port on your computer or use a USB hub with a separate
power supply.
Tips and notes
• The USB 2.0 hub is downward compatible to USB 1.1. This means that conventional
USB 1.1 devices can be operated through the USB 2.0 Hub without problems. That,
however, will not make USB 1.1 devices any faster!
• In order to take advantage of the high speed of the USB 2.0, all devices must support
the USB 2.0 interface: The USB device itself (e.g. an external hard disk), the USB
Hub and the USB controller in the computer.
• The theoretical maximum speed of USB 2.0 (or USB 1.1) cannot be reached during
real operation. Reasons for that can be protocol information, the simultaneous ope-
ration of several USB devices or speed limitations of the connected USB device or
USB controller/mainboard.
• DOS or the Safe Mode of older Windows versions normally do not support USB
operation. Depending on the computer or BIOS/setup settings, the use of a USB key-
board or USB mouse is still possible. This, however, might require the USB keyboard
or mouse to be connected to the USB interfaces of the computer directly rather than
to the USB hub itself.
• USB devices can be connected and disconnected during use. It is not necessary to
switch off your computer when connecting or disconnecting devices.
When disconnecting a USB device during an active data transfer (e.g. when trans-
ferring data from an external disk to the computer), the operating system might col-
lapse. It could furthermore cause data loss or even damage to the file system on the
external drive.
• For Windows® XP, Vista™, 7 and 8, the menu bar displays an icon with arrowhead
when certain USB devices (e.g. USB hard disk) are connected. This functions allows
you to „remove" the USB device from your computer to stop data transfer. It is then
safe to unplug the USB device.
Maintenance and cleaning
This product does not require maintenance. Maintenance or repairs may be carried
out by a professional only.
Use a clean, soft, dry cloth to clean the product. You can easily remove dust using a
