The task of the communication converter is to perform an adaptation of the available fibre
optic active interface in the protection device (DTE) to the physical specification of the
respective interface of the communication network (DCE). The adaptation occurs synchro-
nously and completely bit-transparent, i.e. direct forwarding of the information without adding
or filtering out information. Figure 13 shows the hardware structure.
The interface type (optionally X.21 or G.703.1) and the required transmission speed are set
manually via jumpers.
Another jumper serves to switch over to Test mode for putting into operation and for service
purposes.
