of the smoke alarm cannot be replaced.
Install a smoke alarm in every room and on every loor.
Smoke sometimes doesn't reach the alarm for several dif-
ferent reasons. The smoke may not reach the smoke alarm
and alert members of the house if you are for example,
starting a ire in a remote area of the house or on another
loor, in a chimney, wood, on the other side of a closed
door or on the roof. Smoke alarms only detect smoke in
the room that they are installed in.
Smoke alarms may not alert all the residents of the house
every time. The alarm is extra loud in order to warn people
of possible dangers. However it is not always heard by all
the residents (as in the case of loud noises outside or in-
side the residence, when sound asleep, under the inluence
of drugs or alcohol, diiculty hearing etc.). Install special
smoke alarms if you suspect that a smoke alarm is not
alerting a resident of the house. The resident must be able
to hear and respond quickly to the alarm in order to re-
duce the risk of damage, injuries or death. If a resident
has diiculty hearing, install special smoke alarms with
lights or vibrations.
Smoke alarms only sound their alarm if smoke or burning
particles are detected. They do not detect heat, open
lames or gas. The smoke alarm is designed to issue an
