Brief instructions for electricians
Errors and technical modifications excepted
Additional documentation
Before working with or on the device, it is mandatory to read the online documen-
tation! This brief description for the electrician does not replace the detailed oper-
ating instructions provided online. The complete operating instructions are availa-
ble via the link and QR code below - see section Download.

Intendend use
The SCB is a universally applicable safe time controlelr with which the moving
parts of a machine or system can be stopped quickly and safely in the event of
danger. Depending on the configuration, the safe outputs switch independently of
each other in response, release or instantaneous mode. The SCB has been speci-
ally designed and type-tested for use on machines and systems as well as firing
systems in continuous operation in accordance with EN 50156-1 and EN 746-2.
Important notes
• Make sure that the supply voltage of the device is safely applied during the
loading process of the new configuration. A power-off during the loading process
leads to a non-acknowledgeable error condition.
• We would like to point out that it is the full responsibility of the operator to en-
sure a plant availability. Using the SCB, a safety emergency stop relay accord-
ing to EN ISO 13849-1,
IEC 62061, IEC 61508, EN 50156-1, EN 746-2, IEC
61511-1 is used, which will be brought into the safe state when the safety func-
tion is requested. This means that the connected load is switched off as soon as
a request from connected sensor elements or diagnostic measures detects a
dangerous state, e.g. caused by a component fault. Since process-related appli-
cations in particular have high demands on availability, limited availability can
also have significant consequences. It is therefore recommended to stock a
second unit to avoid long downtimes in such a case. These are recommenda-
tions of the manufacturer, the evaluation of the importance of the plant availabili-
ty is the sole responsibility of the operator.
Safety precautions
• Installation, commissioning, maintenance, and decommissioning should be done
only by authorised and qualified technicians:
who are familiar with proper handling of the safety components
who are familiar with the applicable EMC and ESD regulations
who are familiar with the local regulations concerning work safety and acci-
dent prevention
who have read and understood the operating instructions.
• Opening the device, any kind of manipulation to it and bypassing the safety
devices are not permitted
• The electrical connection of the device must take place only when the voltage
supply is switched off
• Loads at the outputs must be disconnected from the device during device confi-
guration
• The wiring of the device must be according to the instructions of this user infor-
mation, otherwise there is a risk that the safety function will be lost
• The current paths 17-18 and 27-28 must carry only the same voltage potentials
• The device version (see nameplate "Ver.") should be stored and checked before
every commissioning. When there is a version change, the use of the device in
the overall application should be revalidated
Commissioning
The SCB is delivered with the default configuration "Pr00". With this configuration,
the unit evaluates the safety circuit and the start circuit according to the configura-
tion table. However, no delay time is executed. Parameterisation of the delay time
is therefore not possible. When commissioning the unit for the first time, carry out
the steps Load configuration and Parameterise delay time.
Load configuration
Select the desired configuration number using the configuration tables shown in
the sections Configuration table of all SCB... Configuration tables shown. Entering
the PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) takes you to the configuration selection.
The PUK for the configuration selection of the SCB is " 6 1 ". The following
description shows how to set a new configuration on the SCB using the PUK.
ATTENTION:
During the charging process (see point 8), the supply voltage of the unit must not
be disconnected. A prematurely interrupted charging process can lead to a com-
plete loss of function and the unit can no longer be used.
1. Switch on the supply voltage while simultaneously pressing the push/turn con-
trol. A running light and the subsequent display "Pu" inform you about the menu
item PUK.
2. After the menu item "Pu" has been displayed for approx. 2 seconds, the PUK
can be entered.
3. The first digit of the PUK flashes. Set the first digit of the PUK by turning the
push/turn control to " 6 ". Confirm the first digit by briefly pressing the button.
4. The second digit of the PUK is now displayed flashing. Set the second digit of
the PUK to "1" by turning the push/turn control. Confirm the second digit by
briefly pressing the button, which ends the PUK entry.
5. The display "Pr" signals a successful PUK entry. An incorrect entry is signalled
by the error message "Er17". This message is acknowledged by pressing the
button for 2 seconds and the PUK entry starts again from the beginning.
6. After a successful PUK entry and the display "Pr", the currently loaded configu-
ration is displayed (factory setting "00").
7. The desired configuration can now be set by turning the push/turn control and
confirmed by pressing the button for 2 seconds.
8. Loading of the selected configuration is signalled by a running light on the dis-
play
9. After the selected configuration has been loaded, the SCB is in operating mode.
The display shows the delay time "0.0".
Parameterise delay time
After a configuration has been successfully loaded via the PUK, the desired delay
time can be parameterised. By entering the PIN (Personal Identification Number),
the SCB branches into the parameterisation mode. The PIN for the time parame-
terisation of the SCB is " 4 2 ". The following description shows how to set a new
delay time on the SCB.
ATTENTION:
During the charging process (see point 8), the supply voltage of the unit must not
be disconnected. A prematurely interrupted charging process can lead to a com-
plete loss of function and the unit can no longer be used.
1. Make sure that the SCB is in the safe state (all safe outputs are switched off).
Otherwise, parameterisation of the SCB is not possible.
2. Press the push/turn control for 2 seconds. The display shows "Pn".
3. After the menu item "Pn" has been displayed for approx. 2 seconds, the PIN can
be entered.
4. The first digit of the PIN flashes. Set the first digit of the PIN to "4" by turning the
push/turn control. Confirm the first digit by briefly pressing the button.
5. The second digit of the PIN is now displayed flashing. Set the second digit of the
PIN to "2" by turning the push/turn control. Confirm the second digit by briefly
pressing the button, which ends the PIN entry.
6. The flashing display of the currently parameterised delay time (in the delivery
state "0.0") signals a successful PIN entry. An incorrect entry is signalled by the
error message "Er18". This message is acknowledged by pressing the button for
2 seconds and the PIN entry starts again from the beginning.
7. The desired delay time can now be set by turning the push/turn control and
confirmed by pressing the button for 2 seconds.
8. Loading of the set delay time is signalled by a running light on the display.
9. After the set delay time has been loaded, the SCB is in operating mode again.
The set delay time is shown on the display.
