Preparation of slices of animal and plant epidermis specimens
● For animals, take insect wings as an example: Use tweezers to tear a small piece of insect wings. Place it in the middle of the glass slide,
and you can see the neatly arranged scales under the microscope. Wipe the scales directly on the glass slide, and you can observe the shape
of a single scale. (The transparent wings can be observed directly) Apply concentrated salt water to the middle of the glass slide, and after
drying, regular crystals can be observed under the microscope.
● For plants, take tomato pulp as an example: smear the pulp on the middle of the glass slide and drip with water. Then cover the cover glass,
absorb the excess water with absorbent paper, and observe directly under the microscope.
● Some plant specimens, such as onion epidermis, root hairs, wheat awns, etc., can also be made into temporary specimens for observation
by the above methods. However, some specimens, such as horizontal/vertical slices of plant stems, need to be peeled off by soaking, and
then the above methods are used. Make it close to the slide to observe
NOTE! When cutting plant specimens, you need a slicer with a sharp blade inside. Be careful!
When children make slices, they should be done under the guidance of adults!
● If glue is used instead of clean water, it is made by the above-mentioned method, and the cover fragment is covered, and the label is
attached after it is dried. Then, a specimen section that is easy to observe and easy to preserve is made.
● The slide and cover fragment can be reused. The observation is complete. Wash the slides clean, dry them and store them.
