Design and use
The fine surge protective adapters are designed for data
processing equipment and systems with D subminiature
plug connectors and/or socket connectors. They include
a (fine) surge protective circuit and are connected to
data lines and the equipment to be protected as
intermediate adapters.
FS surge protective adapters have to be installed at the
boundary from lightning protection zone (LPZ) 2 to LPZ
3 according to the Lightning Protection Zones Concept
(see also DIN EN 62305-4 (VDE 0185-305-4):...IEC
62305-4:... or directly upstream of the equipment to be
protected. The effects of direct lightning strokes must be
controlled by additional protection measures at the
boundaries from LPZ 0
to LPZ 1 and from there to LPZ
A
2. The corresponding impulse current withstand
capability for cablings between buildings exceeding the
technical data can only be achieved with a BLITZDUC-
TOR
®
CT (combined lightning current and surge
arrester) in accordance with the choice of the system
data.
For more information please contact your dealer or

Safety Instructions
Surge protection adapters may only be installed by an
electrically skilled person and in accordance with the
DIN VDE regulations.

Their use is only permitted under the conditions
mentioned and shown in these installation instructions.
The FS surge protective adapters and the equipment
connected to them can be destroyed by loads exceeding
the values provided, e.g. due to a lightning strike. The
surge protective adapters have to be checked by the
electrician for signs of external damage before installa-
tion and must not be installed if any damage or other
fault is found during this check.
Important:
Never open the device!
Opening or otherwise tampering with the equipment can
destroy the protective circuit and invalidates the
warranty.
3.
Installation Instructions
3.1
The pinning of the FS surge protective adapter
(see Figs. 1 to 4 or label attached to the adapter for
protective circuit/pinning) must be checked for compli-
ance with the pinning of the equipment to be protected
(see also equipment manual, if necessary). Correct
functioning (protective effect) and signal transmission of
the surge protective adapter are only provided if both
pinnings fully comply with each other.
3.2
The FS surge protective adapter should be
installed upstream of the equipment to be protected.

Surge Protection Adaptors
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
3.3
The two fixing screws enclosed (4/40 UNC
thread) have to be used for attaching the surge
protective adapter to the equipment to be protected. For
types FS 9E/ ... and FS 25E/..., the screws are supplied
loosely so that the protective device can be adapted
individually to the socket side or plug side of the
equipment to be protected.
3.4
The surge protective adapter has to be grounded
by its free earthing conductor via the shortest possible
path, e.g. by the earthing terminal of the equipment to be
protected. This earth connection is not required if the
protective ground (PG) of plug or socket connector of
the protective device as well as of the plug or socket
terminal of the equipment to be protected have a reliable
contact to the protective ground connection/equipotential
bonding system.
3.5
If the system is powered by mains, surge
protective devices for the power supply system have
also to be installed (e.g. DEHNguard
S Protector)
4.
Maintenance
Surge protective adapters require no maintenance for
long periods of time, provided the above mentioned
instructions are complied with and the technical data are
observed. A check is therefore only necessary in the
scope of routine maintenance work on the system.
