RFID Access Control Module
Item No. 1839713
Intended use
The RFID access control module is designed to suit many needs where ever a secure contactless electronic
key is required for switching or control action. Applications include electric door openers and gates but also
the control of machines and equipment to be used only by authorized persons.
Contact with moisture must be avoided under all circumstances.
For safety and approval purposes, you must not rebuild and/or modify this product. If you use the product
for purposes other than those described above, the product may be damaged. In addition, improper use
can result in short circuits, fires, electric shocks or other hazards. Read the instructions carefully and store
them in a safe place. Make this product available to third parties only together with its operating instructions.
This product complies with the statutory national and European requirements.

Features of the RFID access control module
• Learns up to 50 user cards.
• Signaling with different sounds (can be also set to 'silent' mode).
• Programming user cards using master card.
• Relay contact with high power rating for wide range applications.
• Highest security against manipulation or unauthorized card duplication by use of password protected
Transponder with data encryption.
• For use of this module with the modular casing a special knob to fit on the switch plunger is included with
this product.
• The modular casing grants the touch safe enclosure which is required if the module is to be used with
mains current.
• The modular casing comes with mounting clips to attach the case on standardized DIN-mounting rails
with 30 mm width.

Explanation of symbols
The symbol with the lightning in the triangle is used if there is a risk to your health, e.g. due to an
electric shock.
The symbol with the exclamation mark in the triangle is used to indicate important information in
these operating instructions. Always read this information carefully.
Safety instructions
Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety information.
If you do not follow the safety instructions and information on proper handling in this
manual, we assume no liability for any resulting personal injury or damage to property.
Such cases will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.
• The handling of products operating with electric current requires you to follow the rules from
VDE such as VDE 0100, VDE0550/0551, VDE 0700, VDE 0711 and VDE 0860 or other local
rules in your country.
• These modules are not designed and authorized for use in life support or life saving
applications! Do not use the product for applications in which a temporary or permanent failure
or malfunction could cause damage to persons or propery.
• If the module is used to switch currents greater 24V it is necessary to have the installation
done with no voltage applied and performed by a trained professional authorized for such
work. The module may only be used in such application if it was installed in a safe to touch
enclosure.
• The module must only be used in dry and clean environment. The use near water, heavy dirt
and/or high humidity is dangerous and not permitted.
• The product must not be used in conjunction with any type of flammable liquid or gas or other
environment with risk of spark triggered explosions.
• Never exceed the limits or ratings listed in the 'Technical Data' section at the end of this user
guide.
• If the module is used in schools or educational facilities or similar institutions the operation
must be supervised by trained and authorized staff.
• The product itself and all parts thereof (including packing material) are not suitable toys for
childern! (choking hazard, risk of electric shock, ...)
Operation
a) Sound signaling ON / OFF
The RFID access control module can signal the result of each registered access attempt with one of two
sounds: 'allowed' or 'denied'. It also is possible to configure the module for silent operation if such signaling
would be disturbing. To change between 'sound' and 'silent' mode the programming key on the module is
pressed shortly. If a 'denied' sound (two identical low pitch tones) is played, the module will be in silent mode.
after playing an 'allowed' signal (two ascending tones like ring bell) the module will play a sound on each
successful card detection. The sounds used during programming modes are always on.
b) Programming a 'master card'
The programming key is pressed and held down until a short tone signal is played (after about 3 seconds).
A regular ticking sound will be audible and the yellow LED is blinking. While the LED keeps blinking a new
card can be learned as 'master card'. The programming of the new master card is confirmed with playing
the 'allowed' sound.
c) Deleting all user card memory entries
The master card is held for about 4 seconds to the reader antenna. After a sequence of beep sounds the
complete memory erasure is confirmed with two 'allowed' sound played in sequence.
d) Learning and deleting valid user cards
The master card is held shortly (until the tick-sound starts) to the reader antenna. While the ticking and
blinking of yellow LED continues, any new (unknown) card presented to the reader Antenna will be learned
and cards already known will be deleted from memory. The learning of a new card is confirmed with 'allowed'
sound and the deletion of an previously known card will play a 'denied' sound.
Up to 50 user cards can be stored in memory. It is possible to use the same user cards on several RFID
access control modules in parallel with no functional interference.
e) Configuration of the relay mode
The output signal can be configured to toggle or timer function. In toggle mode the reading of a valid card
will alternately turn on and turn of the relay contact. If timer mode is used, the relay will stay active for preset
time after detection of a valid card.
To set the RFID access control module to toggle mode, the programming key is pressed down and held up
to the second short beep sound (about 5 seconds after pressing down). The module will operate in toggle
mode unti configuration is changed again.
To set the RFID access control module to timer mode, the programming key is pressed and held down until
a ticking sound starts after about seven seconds. The key is kept held down for the desired time for Relay
activation (while the ticking continues). The range for timer function that can be set is about 0.5 – 25 seconds.
The terminals for the reader antenna must not be connected with any other external voltages!
The connection cable for the reader antenna must not be extended for proper operation!
Information about transponders accepted for use
To ensure highest security against unauthorized duplication of user or master cards this product uses
special transponders with sophisticated security features. The transponders are available with order number
183971 (key pendant).
Simple read only memory transponders with 64/40 Bit serial number (EM410x type) are not accepted by this
system due to missing copy protection. Anyhow the transponders are configured to be downward compatible
with such simple transponders and will be accepted by many other access control products.
Assembly and mounting instructions
The RFID access control module is designed to fit perfectly into the modular casing available with order
number 1840878 A printed and cut to shape front panel to fit on the case is supplied with this product.
With optional case order code 1840878.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the household waste.
