The ECTIVE SC20 MPPT solar charge controller is used as a link
between the solar panel(s) and one or more batteries and is
particularly suitable for high-quality motor homes, caravans and
marine applications .
Compared to traditional solar charge controllers, MPPT
technology offers several advantages . Traditional controllers
connect the solar module directly to the battery during the
charging process . This requires the solar module to operate in
a voltage range that is usually below the module's Vmp . Energy
is wasted that could be used to charge the battery or power
system loads . The greater the difference between battery
voltage and the Vmp of the module, the more energy is wasted .
Using MPPT technology, the charge controller automatically
determines the maximum power yield (MPP) of the solar panels
several times per second . The voltage surplus of the solar panel
is transformed to a higher charging current for the battery . This
is achieved through highly efficient, high-frequency switching
controller technology . This surplus charging current results in
short charging times and the optimal power yield of the solar
panels .
The MPPT solar charge controller operates fully automatically: it
