HISTORY

More than 130 years ago, in 1889,
budding Swiss watchmaking
entrepreneur Georges Ducommun
founded the "Georges Ducommun,
Fabrique des montres DOXA" company
in Le Locle. The future is promising in
the cradle of Swiss watchmaking.
Success breeds success, word gets
around, and in 1906, an anti-magnetic
DOXA pocket watch wins the gold
medal at the Milan fair in Italy. Already
known for its timepieces of "top quality
at a reasonable price," DOXA also gains
a solid reputation as an innovator.
The "8-DAY DOXA Caliber" patented in
1907 and designed for the dashboard
becomes standard equipment on the
first Bugatti and Mercedes automobiles.
By 1915, the company employs several
hundred watchmakers and engineers.
While concentrating on timepieces for
travel and sporting applications, DOXA
continues to develop watches for every
type of customer. Innovations include
a day-date complication with a separate
hand to indicate the day of the month
and a jumping seconds hand. In 1957,
the brand unveils an instant classic:
the Bauhaus-inspired "Grafic" Collection.

75 anniversary, DOXA is awarded
