Universal rotary dimmer with PLC interference suppression 5 - 325 W, 3-wire
1. DESCRIPTION
The universal flush-mounted rotary dimmer is connected with three wires and is suitable for dimming dimma-
ble LED lamps, dimmable economy lamps (CFLi), halogen lamps and incandescent lamps. This device is not
suitable for motor control.
The dimmer can be used with or without memory and is equipped with automatic detection in the event of a
system defect (overload, short circuit, etc.).
The central plate with the control button and the flush surround plate must be ordered separately.
To dim the lighting from a different location, you must use a rotary button extension instead of an NO push
button. You can connect up to five extra rotary button extensions (310-0200x) to this dimmer. The rotary button
extension must also be ordered separately. Consult the rotary button extension manual for more information
about this product.
2. MOUNTING
Danger: Disconnect all power before installing the dimmer. Do not connect the device to the mains voltage until
installation has been completed (including the central plate and flush surround plate).
Tip: Do not use mixed loads on one single dimmer.
Tip: Install the dimmer in an environment with a non-condensing humidity (30 – 70%).
1. Connect the dimmer and the load(s) according to the wiring diagram below, depending on the number
of control points:

* Connect the three connection terminals (N, L, E1) of the dimmer to the corresponding connection
terminals of the rotary button extension.
2. Mount the dimmer in a flush-mounting box with a flush-mounting depth of minimum 40 mm.
3. Secure all parts as shown below:
3. SETTINGS
3.1. Adjust the dimmer settings according to the type of lamp
Manually adjust the first three DIP switches behind the control button according to the type of lamp that you
want to dim.
Consult the diagram below for the correct settings for the DIP switches per lamp type.

(*) These lamp profiles are equipped with boost function. This means that upon switching on, the lamp will
briefly shine brightly before going to the desired dimming level (if the memory function has been activated).
These profiles have been specifically made for lamps which cannot be switched on again when dimmed low.
3.2. Select profile for LED lamps
To select the right profile for the installed LED lamps, you proceed as follows:
1. Try out profiles LED 5 and LED 6, one after the other.
If one of these profiles functions properly, go to § 3.3.
2. If not, try the profiles LED 1 and LED 2 one after the other. If one of these profiles functions properly, go to § 3.3.
3. If not, it means the installed LED lamps need quite a lot of energy to start up. In this case, choose from the
lamp profiles LED 3, LED 4, LED 7 or LED 8. These profiles have a boost function ensuring that, when starting
up, the lamps receive enough energy before going into the desired dimming level (provided the memory
function is activated).
We provide an example of the advantages and disadvantages of the latter two options below:
Profile
LED 1 and LED 2
Advantages
The lamp does not shine bright for a
moment after being switched on
Disadvantages
• The lamp cannot be dimmed to its
minimum level
• In certain cases the difference that
can be reached in light output is
limited
Switch the dimmer off and on after setting the minimum level. If the lamp is not on (during activated memory
function), select a lamp profile with boost function (LED 3, LED 4, LED 7 or LED 8), see § 3.1.
3.3. Select the minimum light intensity
In order to reach the (optimal) maximum range for each lamp, the minimum level can be adjusted.

4.2. PLC interference suppression
This dimmer is equipped with interference suppression of PLC signals. This integrated interference suppression
attempts to remove as many interfering signals as possible from the mains in order for most lamps to function
optimally, without flashing or humming.
Please note: Due to technical restrictions, it is not possible to match the quality of industrial
PLC filters.
Refer to the FAQ on dimming at www.niko.eu/faq for more information on reducing PLC signals.
